I've replaced the brake switch, checked the wiring loom in the trunk area, and the 3rd brake light looks intact....why doesn't it work? The other brake lights work...

Don’t mean to be silly, have you checked the bulb?

Yes... i should have clarified that "3rd brake light looks intact" means the BULB.

So, th bulb is good.....what else could it be?

Shouldn't the OBC tell me what is wrong?
Do you think the actual 3rd brake light (the red lense portion) is defunct?

The bulb or bulb holder contacts may be dirty. Try cleaning them and see if that helps. If not, check with a multimeter to see if you're getting 12 volts at the light housing when you depress the brake pedal.

so do you think one of those light testers would tell me if i'm getting juice to the bulb holder?

Well in my understanding light is not a bulb, I was thinking about the light assembly… But in any case get the volt meter and check if you get any voltage when brake pedal is depressed. Maybe bad bulb socket (but I doubt). Changing the brake switch shouldn’t have changed anything unless your tails were not functioning also.
If it is not a bad wiring, bulb and the socket are good I would check all the fuses. There is nothing else involved as far as to my knowledge…

Canibalize a bulb from one of your other brake lights--then you can be sure its not the bulb.
