View Full Version : Radiator hose not sealing against hose neck...

A couple of months ago, I replaced my radiator, expansion tank, and the four hoses that connect to both of them. I ordered the Nissens radiator and the remainder of the OE parts from EAP. Anyway, the upper radiator hose has not sealed against the radiator hose neck properly since I did the installation. There is a small amount od seepage, which manifests itself as the white, crusty residue, on the plastic side tank of the radiator directly below the hose neck.

Assuming that the neck itself is not cracked (I am 99.9% sure that it is not), why wouldn't the hose be sealing? I am losing approximately 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of coolant from the expansion tank per month or so--not a lot, but I do need to keep topping the overflow tank off. Also, it doesn't leak under idle (I've never noticed it anyway); it only seems to leak under heavy load.

Any suggestions? The hose clamps were new from the dealer. Should I use some of the hose sealant stuff on there? I don't think that this should be a 'feature' of my new radiator.

Thanks!

I recently saw that I have the same problem. I'm going to remove the clamp and just try to retighten it to see if that works. I just bought a new radiator myself and I am hoping it is not the radiator neck beginning to fail.
