On my dad's 97 328i the big center vent dial seems to not function at all. No matter which direction you turn the hot/cold dial at the bottom left of the vent it has no effect.

I am wondering if the cable that connects the back of the vent to the heater core could be the source of the problem. I have checked and it is connected to the vent. I know it is not the common problem of the digital climate control either because that that has already failed and was just replaced.

So my question is what could be the source of the problem and what is the best way to fix? (I couldn't find anything when I did a search besides the common digi climate control failure problems.)

bump, anybody?

when i turn from the blue to red in mine it takes about 10-15 seconds for the motor to change the flap that controls where the airs coming from. in my 91 there are 3 motors to control the various flaps, swop them round to see if it starts working, sounds like a motor is dead. looking from the seats into the dash all i know on the is the top right motor is the external/recycle motor. so swop the 2 on the left, or the flap may be broke that the motor controls, test that by removing the motor and turning the flap with a screwdriver. on mine i found the red power wire into the motor connector had snapped. a quick splice and the recycle worked again.

i hope this helps.
