I posted this message in the e36 M3 forum about a month ago and got a few ideas but thought i'd give it a shot here too. The tires have about another 1000 miles on them now (total 6000) and i'll be replacing the RTAB's tomorrow (+ GC shims). Any other ideas? About to order new tires and would like to get it figured out before i wear out the new ones. Anyways, here goes:

Well my rear Kumho Ecsta MX's are now hitting the wear bars after just 5000 miles over 6 months. The front's look fine, but the rears are in rough shape. Wear is pretty even, with slightly more on the outside of the right tire and slightly more on the inside of the left tire (weird?).

This is on my daily driver 98 M3/4. No track time, no burn outs, but some semi-aggressive driving on the street. Had the car aligned immediately after putting the tires on by the stealership (won't be doing that again, but that's a different story).

If it matters, here'sthe alignment print out from the dealership at the time of installation:

Front left
camber -0.8
caster +7.2
toe +0.10

Front right
camber -0.8
caster +7.4
toe +0.09

rear left
camber -1.8
toe +0.28

rear right
camber -1.7
toe +0.28

(all values in degrees)

I do get an occasional vibration that seems to be coming from the rear on certain roads. Makes me wonder about the rear alignment and/or RTAB. RTABs + GC shims are going in tomorrow with a realignment coming soon of course.

Control arm bushings are about the only other thing I can think of back there that might do this.

Any other ideas? Am I missing anything? I need to do some other service to the car soon (TME, RSM, diff/tranny fluid) and I'd like to knock it all out at the same time if possible since I really can't afford to be without my car any longer than I have to.

I certainly hope this car doesn't use up tires in 5000 miles on a regular basis ;)

what are gc shims?

what are gc shims?
GC = ground control. the shims go around stock RTABs and limit their deflection, prolonging their life and tightening up the rear end.
