I have been reading the posts with interest. I noticed that there are no post of kills with BMW Vs Mercedes Benzs. Has any one had a run in with one of the venerable AMG or Brabus models eg C32 and E55.

I had a couple of run ins with a C320 and a E430 over the past month. Nothing I couldn't handle. Just curious about you guys.

The only AMG's I've seen around here are the E55's and I dare not touch them. I'll leave that job up the the M5's. Most MB's are also owned by people who want a luxury car, they don't care about racing. If they wanted something sporty and lux then buy a BMW. But for all around luxury and comfort you get the older people in the MB's...

Just my 2 brain cells worth.

I think the newer AMG's are really rare cause they barely make any. I think the allocations for the US are around 1000 a year.

As for racing one, well...

I had the opportunity to run into a new SLK 32 AMG. Also, as I suspected he proceeded to hand me my ass. We raced from a stop, 40 roll, and 60 roll. The 40 and 60 he immediately pulled a car length and it widened to about 2 lengths by the time we hit triple digits. He continued to pull away at a steady pace. From a stop I kept up for a second because i had a good launch. Once we were moving though he pulled a length and half and then he was gone:bawl . Had fun getting my ass, beat but it sucked to see that thing tear my baby up:( .

I think they only way i would be able to keep up would be to eat the clutch and pull out one of those miraculous 12.8 second 1/4's that some of the M3 guys are doing. I dont want to put my car through that though.

Yup I drove an E55 AMG against my friend who was driving my E46 M3.

Did a roll on on the highway from 45-60mph ( I can't remember) to around 120mph.

I had a decent jump in the E55 and by the time we were at 120 mph his nose was at my rear bumper.

Me and my buddy in the E55 AMG thought the M3 was slowly but surely pulling on the E55 AMG. My friend who drove my E46 M3 thought they were evenly matched in a roll on situation.

IMO if we had gotten on the gas exactly @ the same time I'd give a slight nod to the E46 M3...

What are 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for the SLK AMG 3.2?? I assume this is the stock blown engine?

hey injunfeller, where in texas are you?

i ran against a slk32 here in houston once... and needless to say, he lit me up pretty good.... :(
but hey, how many chances do you get to run against a slk32... :)

hey fredo,
I live outside of dallas, just shy of denton. I met the SLK 32 owner at a restaurant and i saw him a few weeks later. I asked him if he wanted to race and we got as many runs in as we could while maintaining safety:12: . I run into him once in a while and he's a really cool guy. They are definately very fast...if i could afford one of those 40k supercharger kits for the M3 available in Germany it would be a different story:evil2

S/C kits in Germany?!?
How much freaking power does that up the e46 M3 to?

SLK32 is the fastest production car AMG makes right now, at least in the US, right? That must've been fun to run, but I wouldn't feel bad about losing. Just feel glad you didn't run against an SL55. :D

SL55, i shudder at the thought:eek: . I think car lengths would be converted to bus lengths for that monster.

check this out...my dream car garage(if with 911TT also though) heheheh:evil2
http://forums.roadfly.com/bmw/forums/e46m3/forum.php?postid=524556&page=1

Anyways the last time i checked the most expensive S/C kit in Germany costs 40k, gives 525hp(at crank i believe), and its made by G-Power. There are a couple more from various different people but all in all they are in the 500+ sub 600 range.

In order to pull 600 out of this motor i think the compression will have to be dropped and a turbo setup will have to be implemented. With 11.5 can you say detonation:nono

E430 are not that slow in the freeway either...what kind of car do you have?

Hey Guys,
maybe I'm missing something here:az: but every article I've read that matches M's against the respective AMG gives the nod both in performance numbers and in overall selection to the BMW Ms! :buttrock

I just reread articles in Motortrend of an
1) M-Roadster vs. SLK32 AMG
2) M3-Convert vs. CLK55 AMG
3) M5 vs. E55 AMG

In every review the nod was given to the BMWs and the numbers backed it up. :redspot

Could someone explain to me then why everyone seems to shy away from these models or am I missing something. For instance, I know that I would never try and race an AMG in my car, but I did have an excellent race with a CLK 430, even though I lost.

Messin' with the E430.
Think it was a late model E430 auto, with no sport option. It was a weekend and I was heading out of town to visit my in laws, exciting I know. My car, a 97 328 stock had a couple of passengers. The E430 had a couple of passengers too. I was on the fast lane but within the speed limit around 60 I think. The E430 had been tailing me for quite some time now. The journey was gonna take 6 hours and traffic was light, so I thought to myself let play a bit. I did not know it was a 430 at this stage. Took the car up to 70 and he kept tailing me. kick down a gear and took the car up to 90 and he kept up. Not once did I gain more than a car's length before he caught up. Coame up to some traffic, so we backed down to 60. I moved over to the slow lane so that I could get a good look. He got along side and we exchanged nods. Got the message that he wanted to go at it again, I obliged. He got a jump on me and I stayed on his butt and thats when I discovered it was a 430. I was never really able to take him on the straight. He was actually slowly opening the gap by about half a cars length by the time we were hitting 100. A couple of fast S curves came up and we were at 100 approaching 110 fast. At those speeds the curves come up really, really fast. I kept flooring it and rode out the curves. That was when I started to gain on the 430. After the series of curves I was more than 3 car lenghts in front and doing 120. We shut down after that. He came along side and ge me a nod. We kept each other company at the legal speed limit for about an hour before he had to turn off. I kept on going thoroughly enjoying the encounter

You have to understand, unless you've raced one on the street, the mags mean nothing. These things absolutely take off at higher speeds, and with that automatic, all they have to do is mash the gas.

Yes . . .
MB's are nothing short of stunning on the freeway (AMG's), but thats what they're made for- not autobahn crusiers, but autobahn crushers.

AMG made the first Mercedes "Hammer" and it was called a hammer for a reason. As in "drop the hammer". As in "hammer down".

I definately agree that these things are beasts. I'm not saying they aren't. All I'm saying is that comparitively speaking, a well driven equivalent M model should beat the respective AMG model...again provided that the standard M is driven extremely well.:D

I just hate the idea that some mom can just mash the gas and blow me away without even thinking about it because she put her foot down too hard on her husband's car. :boobies

There is much to be said about them though. Last week I saw a CLK55 AMG convertible totally hand an RSX and a Mustang GT their asses at a stoplight downtown. :laugh It was so hilarious as I was sitting right behind watching the kids in the latter two cars taunting the older guy in the MB before he ripped their little hearts out.

I have seen some AMG models around here, a C32, CLK55, E55, and 1 SLK32, but so far no one was interested in a race... Give them time... :evil2

Usually mb driver are older people. Retired in their car. EDV was right about putting them in their class with the Bimmer. I think all the Bimmer beat them in its class says the Road and Track. Can't compare the E46 M3 with the E55. M5 will take care of it.

Yeah, the M3 competition from MB is the C32, just like the 3 series and C class compete...

Dave, in addition to the C32 the M3 is such a great automobile that it matches up with the CLK 55AMG also. Even though it is close to 20K less, the M3 still hangs with and even it beats it!!:biglaughb All the mags match them up as I had shown mentioned before, probably more cuz the CLK55 is a two door like the M3.

Still be wary of the C32 and SLK32 AMGs...deadly.

It would be much better if MB revamped their model lines to make more sense...the way the coupes, sedans and convertibles are now, they don't match up too well.

I mean, the CLKs are their own line and the SLKs are the 'verts of the C series. WTF is up with that!:chix

There's a couple sl55 here in La Jolla and I've run one thru the Farm in Rancho Santa Fe. I was beating the him into the corner with late braking, hanging till the apex, and then homeboy was gone on the corner exit. I could reel him in before the apex of the next but then WHAM and he's gone again.

Fun run - had a blast and the driver was cool. Pulled in to 7-11 and we talked for a bit while we slammed some big gulps - his adreline level after that run was as high as mine. I think he plays ball here for the Chargers - look kinda familiar.

Those AMG's are incredible cars. I read recently that MB has discovered that they do indeed have buyers for coupes. So they will be adding more to their line.

Why can't BMW revamped their lines to make it like that of MB to make them match better? Kind of a stupid question if you ask me. Each car company has its own way of doing thinks It just so happens that MB does not want conform to every other car companies out there (ie. BMW) so what. Gives them more character than other car companies imo.

Hmmmmm venerable? I don't think so. AMG cars will probably kill whatever you are driving.

Thats what i meant by venerble... revered, esteemed, respected, admired. The AMGs will hand a non M or NA E36/E46 their ass, no doubt about it.
