get a body kit.
naw, if youve got the $, drop a new engine in her. Or you could always have yours rebuilt, that may help.

DASC it. When motor blows up, drop a lower mileage engine in.
or...
Motor swap.

I'm doing an engine swap with my 318is right now. I'll tell ya man, it's not easy, but I'm sure it'll be worth the work when it's all done. I have saved myself a lot of money over getting an M3 directly (especially considering insurance costs), and I'll have a nice little sleeper. Just make sure to fully plan out all parts that you will need to replace/upgrade. The costs add up quick. So far, I have purchased $1800 in parts, on top of my donor car. I could have gotten cheaper parts, but I figure why not upgrade while replacing parts, so it has cost me a few extra dineros.
If your car still has the 318 badge on it and you do a motor swap, leave it there. :devillook

I slapped in a rebuilt performance M42 in my 318i....my motor was fried and I had to replace it and this option was cheaper for me than doing a 6 cylindar swap since all the parts to do it would have to be shipped up here due to a lack of donar cars...(junk yards here ship all BMWs as soon as they hit the yard, hell I couldn't even find a Honda CRV in a junk yard up here....)
Bavarian engine exchange claims 15%-20% increase in HP, but I havn't been to a dyno to test that claim out yet....It feels a lot stronger than my old motor and the cam whine is definatly different...
The only down side to that is I spent about $5000.00 total to replace the motor and all the little pieces like motor mounts, water pump, belts, thermostat, tranny mounts, etc.....
