Hi everyone!
I was lurking around on this forum for quite some time - I think it's time I joined in!
Just got my first Bmw (a modest 318i, nothing too fancy) and have a question so any help would be really appreciated!
This car needs a boost on the low-rpm range definitely!!!
I already have a CAI, and was wondering which chip would be the best for this car?
I looked at these two:
Turner Motorsport chip ($249, +11hp gain/ +19 ft/lbs torque)
Schatz and Krum chip ($195, CLAIMS to have +20hp gain/ +12ft/lbs torque)
Has anyone ever tested the Schatz and Krum chip? please help!
By the way my two cents: the CAI I put in is a Cosmo Racing CAI to give it a nice deep sound - works great, it's not one of those that make your car sound like a bulldozer, and also I the reving became smoother and a little more responsive - which I think for the money spent, is an excellent investment (considering 318 owners don't have many options) by the way although installation is a little tricky if you want it to look good (especially the mounting bracket).

I think it's important to look at where that +19 ft/lb torque is being gained with the Turner chip: 2500 rpm. Now based on what you just said about this car needing low-rpm torque, it looks like that is the type of gain you are looking for.
Torque is really what gets the car moving and the Conforti chips from Turner Motorsport have a solid reputation for getting the most amount of usable torque out of the motor. If it were me, I would get the Turner chip.

thanks guys for your quick opinions, I'm not nearly a "pro" in these things... so torque is more important for that better "pick up power" I presume?
What's the AA chip? (i mean is there a full name I can search and do some homework on? I'd appreciate it)
nobody ever saw the S&K chip perform?

AA is http://www.activeautowerke.com/software/
I don't see anything for a 318.
I am assumming you have an OBD-I (1995 or earlier).

Man is chipping a non turbo or super charged vechical worth it? My S4 was a no brainer 65 hores gained for $800.00. But $300.00 for 10 HP I'm not so sure I'm going to bother. I think I'll do suspention and exhaust and leave it at that.

well.. we happened to drive and fell in love with BMWs, so let's just not discuss about the blown cars since we all know how quickly they pick up hp.. ;)

i'll speak on behalf of serge's car, when he installed it you could definatly feel the difference in pull over mine. And as it stands now before both our car's went off the road. His car with TMS chip, Rogue pulleys and a stock M3 exhaust pulled a lot harder than mine (Confronti cold air). I want to wait untill i can afford S50 cam's to buy a TMS chip so i can have them program it for that too. But from what i've experienced the TMS chip is way worth the $250.

TMS you say? :)
I was at my friendly local garage today to fill up the AC, and started talking to the mechanic about chips... he said that these chips kill your engine and FAST... plus the car gulps fuel like a tank - is this true for any of you guys?
Kind-of made me think, if I put in the chip do I need to make sure I have something else done to the engine so it doesnt die on me? (Except supercharging or twin-triple-quadriple turbo-ing ...if I could afford toys like that i'd probbly get an M3 instead!)
Btw thank you guys for the warm welcome - if anyone needs pics of my CAI install or help with the Cosmo Racing CAI i'll gladly help out and share the little knowledge I have :)
Livinfast - What are the S50 cams? do tell! :smoke3

S50 cam's are the Cam's put in the 3.0 M3..... with tms chip and the S50 cam's i'm told 30hp+ gains to my 2.5L. And i don't think the chips put any extra strain on the engine... and fuel economy is the same. San Diego and back 1200 miles total on 3 tanks in serge's car...pretty fast hard driving at times too and 130 on I-5. So what's that like 25 mpgish for the whole trip city and freeway.

Go with the turner. They have a good reputation and mine seems great. I still get decent gas milage too. I can still get 24 mpg going 100 on the highway ;) in my 325is.

Dude, I have the S&K chip in my 318i. I LOVE IT. Email me bavarianauto@comcast.net if you want more info on them and dyno sheets proving 18HP and 19ft/lbs torque gain.
I had a Dinan chip and it was NOTHING compared to the S&K. I know those guys too, they are GREAT guys.
