I recently purchased a southern 735i 1991 BMW, with 225K miles on it. My mechanic gave it a thorough inspection and agreed the car mechanically was in excellent condition.
Unfortunately, we've found now the engine will need to be replaced and it's an expense right now I can't bear. A replacement engine- rebuilt - will cost around $2500 to purchase. It moves, but a shaved piston sometime in the car's past creates a loud noise.
Otherwise, the interior received a huge overhaul including brand new leather at an expense of over $2000, and the previous owner had receipts exceeding $10000 in the last few years alone. My mechanic once again has reviewed the car and certified it is in excellent condition. He offered his number (716-633-9600) and name (Jason, of Premier Auto). Although I would say the paint is certainly faded, there is likewise no rust at all.
All components work inside the car. With a new engine, this car would be simply outstanding. I'm looking to get $750 for it in it's current condition - which is of course as-is, where-is. With the minor repair, the car would be easily worth ten times that and should exceed that value simply for the many parts. Included will be an extra pair of tires.
