As some of you know, I'm swapping an S50 into my 318 along with everything needed for it to run properly. The donor car's radiator suffered damage during its accident so I need to replace it.

So, will a radiator intended for a 6 cylinder bimmer drop right into my 318? Or will I need to weld new radiator mounts?

I hope someone could tell me before I start the swap so that I can order parts in advance.

EDIT: OK, I think the radiator will drop in. I think the difference in part numbers is because of the different neck points. Can anyone confirm this?

Man I'm not so sure. The M42 rad is different, looks as if the res tank as part of the radiator, where on the sixers its connect to the fan schroud...:dunno. I would think you would at least need new rad hoses.

I'm definitely gonna get new hoses. I'll also replace the water pump and thermostat housing if it has not been done already (will check while I have the motor out).

Someone has done it before, I remember reading about it, though as I recall it required some modification.

edit: not to the actual radiator, but to the hoses...

Hey SQ,

If you are putting that RAD in there with the S50, don't worry. You'll need new hoses anyhow.
