Dinan, Cosmos, BenFer, and Carbonio make low-level intakes.

The gruppe M/gruppe M copies are the loudest intakes I have heard... I have owned ECIS, RMS, and K&N intakes... I have this one on my car, and the differance in sound was quite dramatic:

gruppe M is probably the loudest followed by the cosmos racing CAI and the other CAI intakes like benfer and dinan. I've heard AA and that is pretty loud too.

BTW I have a brand new Cosmos CAI I'm trying to sell if you're interested.

Cosmos CAI is by far the best deal and it sounds great. Deep sound. Sometimes sounds like a blow off valve so u could trick ur friends.

take the filter off your intake and put a sock on the end of the pipe, it will be much louder, lol. really though, my exhaust and intake is so loud it tends to get annoying at times, even though everyone who hears it loves the way it sounds. i just got a heat shield of ebay and chopped my cosmos down so the filter is right in the path of the air coming in through the right grille. i got real sick of taking the damn thing apart to get it out of the car to clean it and sick of worrying about it rubbing off things down there and getting a hole in it. plus i have ellipsoids so it was sort of a pita to get it down in that hole. i'll post some pics when i get a chance.

that cf gruppe m intake is awesome, but i would never spend that much on an intake. when they start knocking them off cheap, i'll try one.

if you can fabricate then do it man, here's a link to making a dinan/cosmos style intake. http://www.brazeauracing.com/customcai.htm

Are short ram's louder than CAI intakes? or is it the same? I'm going to go with the short ram and heat shield route and am looking around right now.
I heard the Cosmo brand (not Cosmos) is rubbish but is it really that bad? Its very affordable and I really don't see what the difference would be except for maybe the quality of filter. Anybody have one? TIA

I was really enjoying the sound of my AA Gen II exhaust (plus chip etc..)

Saturday I finally installed the AA 3.5 HFM/CAI/Chip kit that came with the car (seller uninstalled so I could smog it)

JEEZE!!!!! That puppy is loud! Anytime you step on it, it takes over. I can't even hear the Exhaust anymore! (except at low revs and cruising) I plan on lining the CAI lid with some thin foam to tune it down a tad, it's just a bit too loud IMO. It is getting addicting thought the more I drive it! :D

man!, the biggest part of the intake you should be concerned about is the filter. the rest is JUST A PIPE. wether it's made of cf, steel, or titanium, it still just a pipe. jeez, too hot today.....

Get a 6" Blitz universal filter and polish up a 45 degree 3" bend. The Blitz filter is a fine metal mesh and does not rob performance like other oil-filled air filters...cough...cough...

It's louder than my exhaust at WOT, and sounds like the end of the world when the VANOS kicks in. :buttrock

How loud is a Conforti/ITG?

The comforti intake is quite loud. I like it coupled with my Dinan exhaust. I had an ECIS intake on my 328is and it was pretty menacing as well, although not as well constructed as the Comforti heatshield IMO. I don't understand how you can get 0 noise from that intake system...

Anything of of Ebay for about 60-100 bucks is going to be loud as hell. They are all really short, and the filters are trash. Thats what was on my car when I bought it, and its still there, because it sounds INSANE! Doesn't do anything like it should for being a CAI. Its sole purpose is to make noise.

i was loking at a filter like that the other day but it said for off road/track use only, not for daily driving cause the steel mesh will not filter small enough particles od debris like other media filters. :confused

MRknowITall, what does this have to do with the intake discussion? nothing, and the only 5 that is on your car is the 5 spd transmission in your audi TT, nice try M.D. shouldn't have put your real location. and most of the regulars on here know about my dme fry at the carwash. lol.

which gives more gains cosmos or benfer? granted, benfer is carbon fiber, so perhaps the air stays colder?

donoman
06-16-2005, 08:48 PM
Do you think the air stays $200 colder due to the lower thermal conductivity of the tube?

M3 alpine 99 -

What you may wantto consider while you are buying an intake is your exhaust as well. Your triflo is loud and may mask your intake sound. Your friend on the other hand has a dinan intake but may also have a quieter exhaust.

Yes, it would seem the dinan and tube designed intakes are louder since the air velocity travels faster though a longer tube as opposed to a short ram and hence the noise difference. Also, being that it is in your bumper that has no noise dampning properties.

ECIS and AA should sound similar... both K and N intake cones and short ram.

Hope this helps

The Dinan is prbolly the loudest. When ever me and Kreit drive around he downshifts or at WOT the sound is awsome and he has yet to get an aftermarket exhaust :)

ALSO, I right now have the 3.5'' Jim Confronti intake the CF short one with the foam oil cone. Im wondering if it would eather A: sound better or B: i would get better air flow if i switched to something like a K&N filter but I dont know were to source a 3.5'' cone that is not wildly big.

Cosmos all the way, you wont be disapointed. My Cosmos sounded louder than my Remus exhaust at full WOT. I love the growl :alright . I can barely hear my friends AA.

i would stick with the setup you have now. i have the 3.5hfm/cosmos intake and i just chopped the tube and got a heat shield to make it a short style intake. and i got an itg foam filter to replace the k&n. i just got so sick of trying to get the intake out of the "hole" without it rubbing against something when i pull it out, and the ellipsoids make it tight. the filter is getting more and more deformed and even has a few pinholes in it you can see if you look through it. i had every spot that the filter may make contact with a metal surface padded with soft foam, but it is still getting ruined. i hate how they collapse etc. plus the itg is supposed to flow more air.

Ok thanx for the info, ya i would agree with you, the foam one would be and probolly is alot easier to get off than a normal KN, just from the flexability.

thanks for more discussion but i think im gonna go with the cosmos or dinan cause i had the ECIS before the tri-flo and it did make noise... just not the same kind of ROAR the long tube intakes in the bumper make

not sure if you got your new intake yet, but i've heard the dinan intake on a e36 M3 and on a E46 330 and i thought it sounded extremely good, but my friend, kevin, has the conforti/itg intake on his s52 M coupe and it sounds amazing as well. But in the end if you want quality and loudness i would reccomend the dinan intake. hey might as well earn some dinan points and maybe get a badge one day if u ever buy enough from them
