I brought my car to my paint guy. Its (obv) a 95 m3, red, early build date, august 94. 1/3 my car was repainted red before i bought it, dunno why, assuming a keying (all matching vins, had to be keyed). Anyway he buffed out my hood b/c my car is very faded, and he said its not a red, he thinks its a reddish orange from teh factory. Did some searching n sh*t and couldnt find wat the factory calls the 95 red paint. Any helps/ links/ prior experience would be much appreciated. If i can buff the car out and just repaint the 1/3 repainted the non-original red it will save me some dough. thanks for the help. Any suggestions are more than welcomed.

Mugello didn't come with clearcoat either, which is why it's faded.

if it looks orangish, it's probably helrot. look under the hood on your shock tower for the paint color.

If it looks orangish, it's mugello, hellrot only looks orange in the sunlight and at night in direct light.

According to http://www.bmwmregistry.com/model_faq.php?id=14#colors
95 M3's had Mugello red till 8/94. And some early build cars didnt come with clear coat, that would explain the fading.

My build date is exactly 8/94 :/ The car looks orangish all the time b/c its faded, but you really notice it at night. Does anyone know the difference btween the hellrot and Mugello?? thanks

just pop your hood, and look at the sticker on your strut tower... it will say paint color and code...

Mugello *has* lots of orange in it....even when new, it is like that. Great color, IMO. I think Hellrot is similar....but has a clear coat on it.

BTW...Glasurit has the paint codes for it. Makes me wonder about your paint guy.

Look under the hood and read the factory paint code.
