I need to replace the cats. I had considered straight pipes, but the cat section is bent, so that wouldn't work well. I'd like to put on some high flow cats.
Where can I get them??

ive had problems in the past with high flow cats seting the catalytic converter efficiency faults. any one in the past had any luck with aftermarket high flow stuff? I suppose you could always run o2 simulators to cure the CEL.

This can be a problem...you can use chevy truck converters, they are high flow AND factory efficient

Magnaflows have a good reputation. But I think you need to weld it in, correct? There are no o2 sensor holes, and no place to bolt it on....

You did that on your E38? Any problems? How long have you ran it like that? Your check engine light is probabaly on right?
Thanks,
John

i'm in illinois, so i'll have to pass emissions. can't gut the cats and still expect to pass. i'd like to be able to bolt them back on every couple of years for the test and still pass.

also, u can buy used ones from a junk yard the whole pipes with the cats on, and change then when ever u have to go to the emissions test.
it took me only 17 minutes to take them off the car. so u you swap them any time u want.

So you just run around with your check engine light on? Do you have a reset tool or something?

BasSPoweR and anyone else who has de-catted,
this might be a silly question but how bad does it smell without the cats? the last time i ran a car without cats (the 355) it smelled absolutely terrible and to make life worse, i had a convertible and each time i rolled up to a stoplight i felt like gagging. i ended up getting 100cell race cats so that there would at least be SOMETHING there.
i have pondered de-catting the 7 but my fear is that it will smell just as bad. maybe that's really superficial but man, the smell is god awful.
btw Shinobi'sZ, that is an awesome vette you have there.

Great! I would now need 2 O2 simulators. Does anybody know what color the wires are for the O2 sensor and which is signal, +, -, and heat?
Thanks

I've had my magnaflow cats and mufflers on for around 2 months now with no issues. And it sounds great too!

I put on the Magnaflows, but the CEL is back on. I've never heard of O2 simulators, so I was interested in reading about them. Does anyone have these? My main goal is to be able to pass emissions here in Illinois - will this accomplish this?
