3.5HFM, is a $400 isntall kit really required?

So I asm planning on installing a 3.5"HFM on my car soon, and the part will cost me around $400 dollars at Dinan. They also want to tack on some kind of installation kit. When I called my Dinan rep, he said that the reason he did not purchase the 3.5"HFM was because of this installation kit.

Does anyone have this installation kit and is it really required? Do I need to upgrade my injectors to 24lb?

Should I go from Dinan Stage I to Stage V or should I just get a Shark Injector?

While I am on the subject, what all is required to install a 3.5"HFM and what is the time duration of a typical install? Are the gains negligible?

Well, my car is OBDI, and if I'm not mistaken, some sort of modification is needed to make the Euro HFM fit on the OBDII? Or maybe it's the 540i that needs modification. Anyways, as far as what all you need for that upgrade, is:

-3.5'' HFM (540i or Euro)
-Software tuned for the HFM
-3.5'' - 3.0'' reducer to fit the 3.5'' HFM to the 3.0'' boot to the throttle body

You do not need 24lb injectors, although if you wish to get them, you'll need the software tuned for the injectors as well.

As far as gains, they are certainly noticeable. The car pulls so much more linear and stronger all the way to the increased redline. A friend of mine has a 540i sport and we used to run fairly even, but now I pull on him by about a half car length. That's the only base I have besides the butt dyno. Hope that helps!

search, tons of info and i've been over this sooo many times. screw dinan's overpriced kit. get a used 3.5in hfm(mine was $70), software to run it, and a cosmos 3.5in cai. injectors are optional, but if you decide to get them down the road, you will have to get new software. as for the reducer, i just bought a new tb elbow, heated it and stretched it over the hfm. but you can go with the reducer if you want. im obd1 so im plug and play with the hfm, you may have to modify your plug to fit the hfm.
