Hey Bimmer idols: I have a question and yes I am new to the forum. I have a 2001 silver 750 IL. I think I want to keep this one more than 6 months as I seem to turn them every 6 to 8 months. This is my second 750 and my 7th BMW in the last 3 years. I LOVE EM!!!!!

Anyway my question to annyone with an opinion is. I want wheels and I am debating on a 19" staggard set or a 20" set. Now is it important to stagger them like the 18" sport package wheels are standard. Will I be happy without a staggard wheel. Also I can choose from more options without a staggard wheel and if it is a 20" over a 19". Is my ride on the 7 going to suck with the twenties or is it about the same as if I chose a 19??? I have had AC Schnitzers in 18" and I loved them, but the trend has moved to the bigger wheel. Anyway I want to move on this ASAP so please give me a word or two of wisdom. THANKS!!!

Quite frankly, as you will be dropping significant coin on running gear like that, it does not seem to me that you are looking for the "economy" of being able to rotate tires.

You will get much better handling and appearance with staggered wheels and tires, simple as that.

As for information regarding the effects on ride quality, one nice feature of this message board is the "search" function. Using it will turn up lots of useful information that members won't want to re-type to answer the same question. You can really maximize your Bimmerforums experience by utilizing that feature. Searching would have turned up this discussion, which I think answers many of your questions:

Hope this helps!

You won't notice a difference in ride between 19" or 20" wheels. I'd get 20" for appearance reasons. Also stick with a staggered offset as it looks much better when you have a wider lip in the rear. IMO.

I have stood on my soapbox about form following function many times, but I will step up there again to comment on what I believe is the benefit of staggered wheels and tires.

Plain and simple, you can fit wider wheels and tires in the back than the front. The front wheels and tires need to turn and clear throughout the entire left to right arc and a wider tire simply won’t fit. Rear wheels and tires basically move up and down and do not have as many clearance problems. A wider wheel in the rear allows you to fit in a wider tire while still keeping the outside diameter the same.
