The letter says it all...

Dearest Mini USA,

At long last I have received my Pure Silver Cooper S with racing stripes and couldn't be happier with the results from both a performance and aesthetic standpoint. Ah, 'Tis true that good things come in small packages. Many thanks. The reason for my correspondance today is to relay an unfortunate problem that seems to be prevalent within the new world of motoring. It happened today, on a street just like any other in America. I drove over what appeared to be an insignificant bump in the road and suddenly ---- CRRRAAAACK! Yep, it was the windshield alright. I have to admit, I was a bit dismayed that my brand new Mini now had a flaw - albeit temporary, but still a chink in the armor. Since I work as a distributor of high performance racing parts and my company, Turner Motorsport, races BMW's in World Challenge Touring Car events, I decided to call one of my colleagues who also owns a pair of Mini Cooper S's to see if they had experienced the same type of problem. In fact, they had! Between the 2 Minis they own, they have replaced 3 windshields. I'm not a dumb man, so I'd assume that you are already quite aware of this epidemic of relatively mini-proportion. Therefore, I will consider my communique to have been well received and will look forward to your response to the situation before too many windshields have been put to rest.

Motor on, Douglas Mahar.
VP Sales Turner Motorsport.

Sorry to hear about your windshield problem. Hopefully they get that worked out.

I have been considering the MINI Cooper S, but find the change from my much loved E36 (9 years in July) to be a choice that is *very* difficult to make. It is smooth, quiet, still solid, and even though is only a "lowly" 325, acclerates fast enough to make me smile every day. The handling is the best of any car I have ever owned.

I have not driven a MINI yet, but have seen them on the street now. I have to say, they look spectacular.

I know you have a lot of experience with the E36. How is the transition from the early 90's BMW world to the early 00's?

I still have the Cup Kit on my car. It has lowered a little more than the last time I wrote to you. Other than that, it is still working well. I had a chance to compare it back-to-back with a stock E36M3 suspension. The H&R Kit is slightly firmer, and lower. The handling balance was very similar. I am planning on putting my M3 Bilstein/H&R Sports back on this summer. Is there anything special you would like me to do with the Cup Kit? I really appreciate you guys allowing me to test this out.

Good luck with the MINI,
Bernman (who is still in love with his E36 "security blanket"...)

Wow.... hopefully that problem gets addressed because after thats of warranty that will be expensive as all hell to fix!! Do you know if there is the same issue with the regular MINI (not the S)?

I'm definately awaiting response on that one. Make sure you post it on here when you get it.

Okay, here is an update.

BMW of North America called me.

They wanted to know what the dealer was doing about it, so basically checking on the dealer. Not too concerned about me really.

But, the car goes in for a new windshield tomorrow morning.
I will let you know how it goes.
