I have a 2005 Cooper S on the way. I live in Texas and it gets a bit hot around here. What I hate most is leaving work and getting into an insanely hot car. I am interested in trying to combat this in some way.

The obvious method is remote start, but with coded keys this is very difficult. Although it can be 100+ degrees outside, I thought about getting some 12 volt brushless fans like in computer cases and installing them somewhere for circulation. What I would really like is Electric AC that can be operated without starting the engine. Audi as supposed to be working on this. Apparently Toyota and DENSO co-developed an Electric Scroll Compressor for use in Toyota's hybrid vehicels. I also found reference to someone in a BMW dealership saying that they were told such a thing would become available for the Mini, and it would even include a system so you can call a number on your cell phone to turn it on. It would also monitor the battery and turn off at a preset threshold.

I would really rather not get into replacing the whole compressor. I'm not the mechanic sort, but I understand the compressor is typically belt driven. What sort of electric motor would it take to run it? I realize it would require operating the fan too. Is this even possible? Am I just dreaming?
