Just installed a z3 shifter (1.9) into my 325 - what a great, cheap mod :)
Many thanks to Bimmer95 for the excellent write up :)

congrats! I am going to do mine with either the 1.9 Z3 lever or the M3/328 lever when I get a chance.
Yeah Bimmer95 is a great source of info here!

I couldn't get an M3 lever (it's not a common mod over here), and the dealers don't keep them (the part number listed is the same part as on the 325 / 318 etc), so I got a Z3 one. I'd recommend getting a couple of the washers, the circlip and a new pivot cup while you are at it - at least then if you break something or it falls on the floor you have a spare (and they only cost pennies)...

I'm just curious, how does the Z3 Shifter differ from the one in the 325? Great post, by the way, thanks!

The distance between the pivot and the selector rod bearing is greater, so you have to move the top half less to move the bottom half the same distance. The top half is also slightly shorter..
Look in Ron Stygar's section of http://www.unofficialbmw.com/ under drivetrain for a lot of info on all of the different shifters you can get..
