and asking questions and having a snack and chillin out as if we have been
there all our lives. I haven’t seen these guys since Homecoming 2001-

the whole weekend.
-or-
Track Parade!
If you buy an "International Car Club" upgrade ticket, (another $45), you
will be welcomed at the special ICC corral and hospitality with special
parking and for the first time, Watkins Glen is offering ICC ticket holders a
chance to lap the track! Yes! This DOES mean you can take your open top
roadster on the track at Watkins Glen without doing a thing to it!!!! This
is for BMWs, Porsches, Corvettes, Italian and British Cars only! It’s one
heck of a photo op!
Space is limited- buy ticket ASAP! You must be at the Corral by 11am to line
up to lap.

2:30pm-5:30pm
It’s open seating so we can all sit together and root for Team Spartanburg
and the Z3 Coupés to WIN! For this event, coolers are welcome, and they have
nice concession stands too. (You can stop by the original Moosewood
Restaurant and bring your own veggie goodies if you like!) It’s three hours
of racing 250 miles on a "road course" not a loop!

Gangsters:
------------------
Jon and I will probably leave after the Z3s race and on the way home stop in
Apalachin to check out the "Mafia House" featured in the movie "Analyze This".
where the infamous "Mafia Convention" in 1957 took place.

http://www.search-international.com/Articles/crime/mafiaorigins.htm

"FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover was finally forced to admit that this shadowy
crime cartel was a lethal force in American life following public disclosure
of a secret conference of sixty-five ranking mobsters at Joseph Barbara’s
sprawling estate outside Apalachin, New York on November 14, 1957.
Astute state troopers, accompanied by agents from the Bureau of Alcohol
Tobacco and Firearms tax unit, observed several well-known Mafia figures
coming and going from the country house of the millionaire president of the
Canada Dry Bottling Company of Endicott, New York. Road blocks were
hastily set up, and in the ensuing commotion, the aging "dons" fled into the
dense woods discarding money and guns as they fled in panic."

****If you want to meet up en route, email me at rachel@z3ers.com or post on

More in the area:

Mark Twain
-------------------
We might stop in Elmira to pay respects to Mark Twain:
" Elmira cherished fond memories of Mark Twain. With Mrs. Clemens and the
children he had spent many happy summers at Quarry Farm, on East Hill,
overlooking the city, the home of Mrs. Susan
L. Crane, Mrs. Clemens' sister… A path from the Crane hose winds through
wooded grounds to the summer lodge, which was Mark Twain's workshop. Here he
wrote "Roughing it," "A Tram Abroad" and other works.

Below this lodge, a short way down in the woods, is another rustic structure
with barked roof, which the author built for his children. Here may still be
seen many of the undisturbed play things of the little ones.

It was during the Quaker City expedition in 1867, which Mark Twain had
immortalized in "The Innocents Abroad," that the humorist met General
Langdon… Langdon took kindly to young Clemens… the meeting led to the
marriage.. with Olivia L. Langdon.
"I saw her first," wrote Twain of his wife in his autobiography, "in the form
of an ivory miniature in her brother Charles' stateroom…when she was in her
twenty-second year. I saw her in the flesh for the first time in New York in
the following December. She was slender and beautiful and girlish, and she
was both girl and woman. She remained both girl and woman to the last of her
life."

It's the first day of frikin summer, let's take advantage and DRIVE! ;)
