View Full Version : Why We Mod

While I was sitting in my engineering class earlier today I was thinking about why people mod their cars. I can think of some really broad general reasons, but I thought I would see what ya'll thought.

Mods, if this goes OT then feel free to tow it (like I even need to give ya'll permission :D )

When I do mods, odds are they're functional mods. For example, I'm putting a MZ3 shifter in my 5er to shorten the throws (it's like rowing a boat right now). An M5 rear swaybar is going on to improve the handling. CDV delete is being done to make the clutch easier to modulate.

I mod because I want to improve things. I don't do a lot of appearance mods, and if I do, nothing that breaks the bank.

well alot of cars are watered down a bit to make them more civil, like dwayne said i use mods to get the performance out of the car i want, also it gets my out of the house, where i would sit and post on internet forums all day long

I mod for functionality, performace and fun.

I got the CDV removed because it makes the car easier to drive.

I got the AA exhaust, ECU tuning and filter for sound and performance.

I got the windows tinted because it looks way better and it keeps the interior from fading, and getting hot.

It's a sickness really...the mod bug that we all know too well. :help

Why do you breath?

Because things wear out, and you might as well improve it.

Because we are all afraid of being "another face in the crowd", or "another
drop of water in an ocean"

We are also afraid of having "another car in the parking lot"

Ah, so you think its a form of self expression?

omg philosphy? If this was in OT, it would implode.

to get it to handle better, go faster, and look better at doing it. To make my car stand out against all the other silver, four door E46s, and have people say, "Wow, that's a nice car." or "wow, check out the drop on that!"

i do it to have the only car like it, i like being unique, plus then when your car is dirty people write notes on your car saying how sweet it is and leave Phone numbers! lol < its happened

Also i have nothing else to spend money on I already have the best golf bag/clubs money can buy

exactly, its easier to waste $ on the car than it is to save.

Nowadays it's to get things that the manufacturer didn't provide. Like Navigation in my M-coupe --- or a hard-drive based music player --- or an armrest --- or HID headlights --- or a sunshade to block off the sunroof hole --- or a spare tire.

"Back in the day" is was to get more power.

Because all those German PhD's have no idea what they are doing & I do.......ppppp

I like to go faster & maximize functionality, actually. Yes, I wrote that all by myself...call me Ishmael.
