After trying out new slicks last week, I decided they were too scary as they were very unstable. So I sold them and i bought me some 225/50-15 BFG DRs. Today I decided to try them out at the 1/8 mile drag strip in mexico.
Let me just tell you that there was nothing but rice. No one wanted to run me as the fastest honda was running 9.5 sec in the 1/8. It was kind warm and it started cooling off later on. I kept running 8.5-8.6 and i guess cause i was running no one.
So finally a 5.0 and the only v8 challenged me. I have it on video and has been emailed to the person above so hopefully it will be up soon. Take note on my burn out with line locks and the cutout fully opened.
Also, there were no time slips but you can hear the announcer in spanish say 8.09 sec.

Those 5.0's are pretty quick.. I raced one, this one time.. he beat me by a car or 2, but he refused to tell me what was under the hood.

he used a line lock to burn out. It locks up the front breaks only, allowing you to burn out like that

To put it into perspective. My friend in his 350z with only custom intake ran at his best a 8.89 in the 1/8, and that apparently is equavalent to around a 13.7-13.8 in the 1/4. So for this M3 to be turboed and only running around 8 in the 1/8 is alittle suprising. I'm pretty sure he can do better than that if a stock Z can do high 8's. And I think a turboed e36 M3 is MUCH faster than STOCK 350Z.
Then again I could be wrong and that extra .9 seconds in the 1/8 could mean alot more than I'm giving him credit for in the 1/4.

The turbo gets quicker from the 1/8 on. I'm willing to bet that his trap speed is in the high 70's low 80's. I'm trapping 92 mph still running rich. 8.09 on turbo m3 is mid to low 12's. I'll be going again Thursday night(cooler) and try to break into the 7's. I'm stilling learning how to launch with these new DRs. You can hear on the video where I bogged taking off. :D

Very Nice Burnout, but you need to post 1/4 times.
1/8 test @ 8+ is not very impressive.
Thanks for posting the Vid!

8 flat is like a high 12, i thought the AA turbo kit put down better numbers than that?
And maybe I missed something but how did you go from a 8.5 all night to a 8 flat? 8.5 is like a low 13 which some N/A M3's are capable of on drag radials.

You have to consider time differences in the 1/8 are obviously going to be closer than 1/4 times. just under a second will become a good deal more past an extra 1/8 of a mile... rockin' vid though.

Its easy..LOL... just slap a turbo in there and there you go, lots of torque. ;)

Nice vid! :)
I run 8.5's on street tires and that was before my track pipe and ltw crank pulley I will be back soon with some drag radials and try to hit the 7's

You must have a very fast NA car. According to this:
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=274378&highlight=1%2F8+mile
You're running low 13's in the 1/4 with a 8.5 1/8. That puts you in par with a 02+ m3s. It will be difficult to break into the 7's being na. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I would like to see a video of it being done. :D What's your trap speed at the 1/8.
with my 325 that had the same motor I have now I was trapping 85.7 with the m3 Im traping 83.??. But the 325 had a tacp pipe during that run and the m3 had cats in the 83mph trap. Now the m3 has a track pipe and has yet to be ran.

You have a great 60 footer to get that time. Just to compare, with street tires I was getting 2.3-2.4 60 footers doing anywhere from 9.2 to 9.5 in the 1/8. My trap on the other hand was at 88+. With 225x40-17 DRs, I brought it down to 8.5 with 2.2 60 footer. The DRs helped from second gear on as I was spinning them before. Just that improvement, I got a second faster. I'm now trapping 92 mph and in that video, I was just trying out my new 225x50-15 DRs. On the run on the video, you can clearly see that I bogged taking off and still managed 8.09.
I did 10 runs that day and my new DRs are all worn out now. :shifty
Just need to work on launces I was getting 1.9-2.0 with the 325 consistantly, with the 205 street tires and open diff. Now that I have the m3 it has been so long since I have been to the track that I was out of practice and could only pull off 2.0's with the 235's and lsd.
Launch at a high rpm and slowly slip the clutch out instead of just letting it all out. And lower the psi in your tires to about 24 or so maybe a little lower if you want.
also I never burn out, It can help you to get a better 60' time but I dont have a set of track tires and I dont want to waste away my street tires.

The BFGs are very good tires for the 'strip. I used them on my RENNtech S600 and would get 1.64 - 1.73 60's depending on how hard I launched and how well the 'strip was prepped. I ran 22 PSI in 265/40-18s in a 4800# car; in an E36 you might try 18 PSI. They do not need a long burnout to work well.
did you went to carpista? in Tecate Mexico?
and about the rice thing, yep, lets say that 98.9% of cars in here are rice :eyecrazy

to get 1/4 mile time from 1/8 mile ...multiply 1/8 mile by 1.57...
8.09 = 12.70 quater mile
not bad
