Is this a E46 M3 with SMGII

My friend claims this is a year 2000 with stock 6 speed manual. It looks to me, that it has SMG. Notice the paddle shifter and the SMG molding, shift boot, and stick and knob.

Your friend is wrong, that is a 2002+ with SMG.

Thats what I have been trying to explain to him, it has obvious signs that it is has SMG.

looking at that picture ^^ looks to be an SMG because of the circular ring around the bottom of the shift boot... cant see much else in that pic though

First year for the ECE market is 1999 and for the US market is 2000, but these are production years, not model years.

If I remember correctly, the first year SMG was in the E46 M3 (01'), it came without paddles. My dad had one in LSB on order, but found out that the 02' SMG would have F1 inspired paddles for shifting, so he waited another year for the SMGII.

SMG was not offered in 01, we(US market) have always had the paddles.

Guys, the first pic is an '02+ SMG II M3.

The second pic is some form of E46 M3 with 6 SPEED Manual. What that person did is just use the SMG shift knob and console surround on a normal 6 speed car. Since the SMG shift knob fits like any other shift knob and you can install the smg surround to cover the old gap. You can also notice that his shift lever is much higher and angled than the real SMG II lever because it has to move to select the gears in the normal manual. And that is why there are no paddles in the second car. EDIT: That's what I think anyway, because I've seen it done before.

Either that or he upgraded his wheel to the alcantara and didnt install the paddles on the new wheel
