100%

Most street legal rules have very good reasons behind them

But Im a Dad with three kids in New Mexico..they can go to hell on the window tint law..my kids comfort comes first...infact...give me window tint and e38 power screens :buttrock

My M5 isn't completely legal. Euro cats (still passes Tx inspection, though :confused ), no side markers, tinted windscreen (factory option in Germany), Euro dashboard (speedo in km/hr), bumpers don't appear to have been modified for DOT approval and no front plate.

My old E36 M3's ride height (when measured as height of headlights from the street) was bordering on illegal.

I have modified exhaust, no front reflectors, no front plate/euro plate, removed top speed limiter and metric cluster (kph instead of miles..) non dot approved headlights. Damn i feel like a badass

No front plate, exhaust, radar detector, sharked

Soon I'll have "illegal" suspension :shifty

On the other hand, my projectors going on next week are DOT. :redspot

exhaust, shark and suspension are all legal in VA as far as i know.

as for me,

My projectors are DOT approved, but I'm pretty sure one way or another it is illegal to bake open your headlights, gut them, and put completely new housings and lights in there. Not to mention my painted indicators. No amber blinking or reflecting anywhere.

MrBlonde

Mine is totally legal, apart from the welded six point rollcage and parachute.

bigbris1
04-16-2005, 09:16 PM
35% tint on sides (registers as 25% on police detector :confused )
Too low
Illegal aftermarket exhaust
Chip
Headlights & HIDs

I don't know, I've heard of people getting tickets for aftermarket exhausts/suspension. I'm also assuming that the removal of the top-speed limiter is against the law :dunno

-non-legal headlights (8000k hids)

-mirror tint (which i will change to 20% all around this summer; MS tint law is 35%)

-non-CARB exempt intake (like MS cares about emissions)

thats all i can think of right now......

The e30 is completely legal. Only thing that they might question is the ball joints when inspecting it.

The 944 on the other hand has no cats, no muffler, non dot approved seat belts, and seats, no "headlights" (moving to just 90mm HID's mounted where the Fogs and Euro driving lights used to be). Other than that I think I'm ok.

04-17-2005, 01:18 AM
too low
non dot headlights
blue side marker bulbs
blue clear corner bulbs
no front plate
modified exhaust
screen in view of driver that plays dvd's while driving
removed top speed governor
soon to have removed passenger side airbags
and i usually almost always leave my rear plate covered

Stephen V
04-17-2005, 01:27 AM
I don't think very much...

- Non-DOT headlights with too high wattage and yellows for winter
- bumpers are modified distance from body
- limo tint on rear and rear quarters with medium on sides and 5" limo strip on wind shield
- euro front corners
- I am sure that my Bilsteins and rigged intake are dodgy to the police and they could find something wrong with my stereo with a 12" sub...

To be honest I don't think the legality of my car is nearly as bad as some of the ricers that prowl where I live.

schussey
04-17-2005, 02:23 AM
-illegal tint
-cat delete on exhaust
-clear indicators w/ white bulb

for sure:
- no front plate
- non-dot headlights
- hids in non-dot headlights
- no amber reflector in front of car
- blue LEDs in interior (soon to be taken out)

not sure:
- top speed limiter removed
- not sure if i can pass emissions with my dinan stage 4 set-up (put on after last emissions test)

i think that's about it

Sh!t, are you guys saying that modding your car is illegal in the U.S? That sucks..

I can't think of any modification that is illegal in the UK, short of having no plates maybe. I guess we got it good.

Not really---it's just some things have limits in many states

tint can be only so dark
intakes/exhaust can mess with emissions restrictions
turn signals must glow amber (clears glow white so you have to get amber bulbs)
and some states require a front license plate. I'm very glad mine does not :D

Hi,

:D :D :D
that is a benefit of bimmerz, here in Germany, especial if you drive a bigger one...
If you're drivin' a Opel/Vauxhall or Volkswagen Golf/Polo/Jetta... you'll be pulled over
more often & then they'll ckeck everything...
If a cop opens the hood & take a look onto my V12 - he'll just say --> nevermind!!!
:D :D :D
