Hey there,
I bought a '95 M3 with the Active AutoDON'twerks supercharger. Stupid thing broke down after 3000mi. and approx 1.5yrs. I would strongly suggest another company.

ouch, that bad? how long is the warranty on the kit? what type of service did AA provide you with that failure? wasn't there a bad batch of chargers from Rotex awhile ago?

I've had my kit for a while now.

I got the kit put on when I had about 52k. I'm now at 65k.

Never had one problem. Well, let me restate that - The first chip I was sent stumbled a bit. They sent me one out next day air free of charge.

I've been on many road trips with it.

maybe your problem was that you bought the car with the AA s/c? the prev owner could have not know what he was doing, or drove the car like an idiot.

How do y'all feel about the power results of expectations vs reality? Is it what you wanted and more, less than what you though, or perfect!

It's not enough.... but hell, for some people stock is enough, so who knows.

I put more than 13.000 miles on my car in just 8 monts, all of them with the AA S/C and the thing performs as good as the first day, I had a few minor issues with other stuff like replacing 4 guibo flex disks, and 3 damaged bearings in the gear box due to extra hp and also 2 OEM clutch disc and one AA lightweight M3 flywheel kit. Other than that the S/C is flawless.

6K on mine. I haven't really had any major problems, just had to replace some intercooler piping which AA provided at no cost.

I went 32k on my AA SC setup over the course of 15 months or so. I beat the snot out of the car on a daily basis, and took it to the track for a good 1200 of those 32k miles. Besides a faulty charger, which was expected to be problematic as it was in a batch that had been recalled, I had no issues with the car other than tires that seemed to wear really, really quickly... at least in the rear. I was happy with the power; more is always nicer, but getting to much more than a base SC kit will give you opens the potential for more problems, and more money. It's expensive to play with the big boys :)

Hmmm.... I thought about that. But the car was in fairly decent shape. Just the same, I have the Rotex part which I've heard are crap. Did Active AutoDON'Twerkes send anyone a replacement Rotex blower free of charge?

I've been running my AA SC for ~ 7,000 miles and have no issues. It's a very solid setup and I would recommend it to anyone. Are there other good systems out there? After reading this board, absolutely, and I am sure every one of them has at least one customer who has had a bad experience. I choose the AA system by searching this board and it was a good decision for me with the results I wanted. Would I like more power? Absolutely! :buttrock I am becoming a mod addict and need help. :help

Good Luck!

Can you guys post more info about this bad batch of charges from rotrex ?
I am worried because after 2k my charger is still making crackling noises when Idling. Other than the noise when Idle the car is running strong. I can easily reach 5psi, but to get the full 8psi I have to go all the way to 7k.

Installed @ ~38K...now have 52K. Still holding strong.

I am sure that not all that was caused by the s/c. Turbo cars pushing 450 rwhp don't have those problems. My RMS kit is putting down 325 rwhp and I have beat the living poop out of it. I don't have half those problems.

The only reason I ask "is it enough" is because I'm looking for something that you put the gas down and the car flies....I want supercharger reaction and turbo performance....I think I want the Twinscrew....but if I can't get that, the AA sc may be the only other option right now....and if I get that, maybe it will be all I need/want and more!?

Same here I'v had my car back for about a week "chrips" when its cold some day its there some day its not.
As far as enough power ur always gonna want more but more power = more problems. For an every day driver its perfect. And it sounds better than any SC i'v herd so far.... kind of like the mustang saleen s351 SC whine

I had 10k miles on mine before I sold the car. Not one issue with it, not one. The kit was flawless.

I put over 15k miles on mine and it had around 10k miles on it when I bought it. Worked great, no issues, even with tracking the car and auto-x.

The "chirp" you guys are hearing is probably belt rub. I had a custom water pump and alternator pulley machined to move the belt away from the bracket. Worked like a charm, zero rub and belt dust and no more noise...

I probably have around 10k miles with one weekend at the track. No major issues except I'm not getting max boost (8-8.5 psi) at 70F. I'm only getting around 6.5 psi once the car is warmed up. Other than that, the car runs great as stock, but with more hp. AA has suggested things for me to try to diagnose the issue and now that it's getting warmer, I'll be able to try it and implement it. If I had to "start over", I would do it again.

My kit is flawless after 20k. I've just replaced the belt as part of a service and that's it.

Sounds like my Rotex was recalled - what blower should I replace it with (for the AA supercharger)?

Just for comparison sake, Ive got 60k miles on my Vortech based kit, bought in 1999. It will probably take some time for guys to start accumulating this kind of mileage on the AA kits, as they came along a couple of years after I had my Vortech kit installed.

That is the nature of the beast with centri blowers...

To reach full/max boost you have to run it to redline...

Ryan,
Did you ever change anything (ie rcca) to minimize the camber change from the PSS9's, or was the wear more than just the inside tread?

There's probably nothing that's a drop in replacement other than the Rotrex. I would inquire if that was a recalled unit number, and try to get some compensation at least. If the first guy used a smaller pulley or something else to overdrive it, you may have difficulty getting them to honor anything.

Alex, it was due more to the 310whp than anything else... hahaha!

The alignment was great; Turner corner balanced the car very nicely. I lost the center of the tire in the back, before the insides. It liked to spin the tires, even at a 275 size.

310 is a lot for that little car. I imagine it's substantially lighter than the 330, which makes a solid 275 whp with that kit. I was considering perhaps a 3.07 or 3.15 to put a bit more to the ground.

Oh, and to the original poster, I have over 20K miles on my kit. It's running well now, but I was frustrated getting it to this point. I do owe thanks to George at ICS, and the guys at Active who were generous with their time and parts replacement.
