hello, i was recntly in the bmw shop and found out that my car has a need to replace rear wheel speed sensor.

i just looked on the net and i found this:

ASC AND/OR ABS WARNING LAMP ON
MODELS AFFECTED: 3 series (E 46), vehicles produced up to 9/98
FAULT: The ASC and/or ABS warning lamps are on, with fault code 31 or 41(rear wheel speed sensor) set
in memory.
CAUSE: Faulty rear wheel speed sensor.
SOLUTION: Replace the wheel speed sensor with a sensor with production date 22/08 or later.

yes. If it's a factory defect, they are required by law to replace it free of charge.

yes, this is considered a faulty defect, because the part that needs to be replaced is a later manufacture date than what part was origionally put on your car. You can go to any BMW dealer and they will do it.

Where do I start?

First, that doesn't even apply to your car. The bulletin covers all E46 3 series produced before 9/98. You own a 318is, which is an E36.

Second, what you found is a service bulletin, 34 01 99 to be specific, not a recall. Big difference. Bulletins are ment for techs to help guide them through fixes for known problems. If the car were covered under warranty then, yes, it would be free.

Not trying to be an a*hole, just trying to set you straight and keep you from looking like a dumbass when you try to tell the service writer at the dealership that you want them to fix your car for free.

so all these problems are not even considered as factory defects? or recalls?

No, just known, common, problems. Recalls are 99% of the time safety related.
