Bu!!$#!+
E36 M3 mirrors are E36 M3 mirrors
He may be talking of LED mirrors, which are not factory, not stock, not oem, and as far as I've seen not even DTM.
We threw a set on my brothers old e34 M540 clone, made it look a lot like an M540 (which had M3 mirrors, M5 Wheels), but switched to a set of non-led (gotta love ebay)
The euro may have wide angle glass, but the housing is the same. He could be talking about the LED ones, schnitzer cup mirrors, who knows.
Does the @BMW mean you work for a dealer? If that's the case, fire up your ETK or bug the parts desk about it; there may be some one off weird thing that noone knows about but your buddy

no physical difference. but the glass is rounder. "eliminating" the blind spot. i have it, and i now hate driving US spec cars :(

If by cooler you mean different, then yes. As CarbonBlkE36 said, the glass is convex thus eliminating the blind spot. If I remember correctly, it also doesn't have the "Objects are Closer than they Appear"

is there a part number for the euro mirror so i can order it through my local dealer? is the glass ordered seperate from the housing (since it would be silly to have two driver side housings)?

Wow, wasn't that informative. :rolleyes

You can get the mirror glass seperate. I don't know the part numbers off hand, but I know it's been discussed before.
same on mine apart from the glass.

Hey justaddcoffee,
My search for BMW OEM "Euro mirrors" a few years back was fruitless, but I came across a really useful aftermarket product made by Mirror-tech or Mirro-flex out of the Mid-west somewhere... Anyway, it's a piece of asymetrically convex one-way mirror made for E36 M3 shaped side mirrors, pre-cut by the vendor. I put 'em on my 1997 M3/4 and find them very useful, especially in traffic. The convex curve is more pronounced the further the mirror surface is from the car to facilitate easier view of the rear-quarter "blind spot". Think I paid about $70 for them and used alot of extra Scotch-brand double tape foam used during the install. Then silicone adhesive carefully around perimeter except bottom edge (keeps mirrors heated, allows rain/condensation to drain out). They are stil working great after 3-4 years.

thanks for the tip. :) i've been looking for a way to widen my view for a while now, i've been thinking about getting some e46m3 style mirrors that i saw on ebay (they even fold in) just because they a little more glass, but the wide angle glass sounds like a better way to go.

Hey justaddcoffee,
The aftermarket side mirror I'm happy with is available from " www.MULTIVEXMIRROR.com". I find these mirror overlays facilitate quicker head-checks in traffic :eyesscan .
Mirror surface finish is stellar, but my pair have a rough edge finish around the entire lens perimeter; maybe an artifact of production instead of putting a nicer, fancy bevel around the edge. Vendor install instructions details a simple removal technique and a technical geometry tome about their "asymetric convex mirror".
Installed them per instructions, except that I also added quite a bit more of the double taped foam adhesive (Scotch Brand, roll form) than the couple squares MULTIVEXMIRROR supplies. BEFORE INSTALLATION I experimented with mirror position and electric adjustment so that the instal location I prefer sufficiently clears the OEM stock mirror housing in my preferred adjustment positions. This product installs ON TOP OF the existing OEM stock side mirror, therefore affects mirror lens clearance.
I used a continuous tiny bead of clear silicone Recreational Vehicle sealant around the perimeter except for half of the bottom edge. Purportedly the RV silicones have UltraViolet protective agent that household plumbing silicone does not.
Good luck,
Fred
