I was on my way to work this morning, late as usual. I get on to a 45 mph street about 2 miles away from work, and I see a 69 Camaro all hooked up with the usual redneck mods. Anyways, I come flying up on his ass and he sees me right away. We both punch starting at about 50 mph, I pass him and stay 1-2 car lengths ahead of him. He tried puching it one more time but I wouldnt let him catch up.
I even drove a mile past my work so I could still stay ahead of him while we raced. I love my car!

Yeah, you can say all you want about the new crap that america is making, but back in the late sixties they built some straight line cars that could snap your spine. I got one of those. And let me tell you, if you arent slow with pushing down the pedal, you will never get going. My driveway looks like a drag strip, and I drive it very gently. But then again, my car has something to do with hurst and oldsmobile. Strange.

I will get around to posting them one day. Got to wash it first. And its a beast. It was repainted about 5 years ago, and the paint it already starting to oxidize. Good grief.
Cars shouldnt be this much work.
Ezpecially for one with 365 stock horsies.

mpire, that is a beautiful Olds. As far as the guy blowing away the 69 camaro... by FAR the fastest car I have ever been in in a straight line was a 69 SS (heavy mods), it was truly frightening. Watch out! It's a completely different class.

The 455s were never quite as fast as the 454s for some reason. Not sure of the details, but they were more luxury cars than full on dragsters. The engine was pulled, bored a little over, new pistons, rings, crank, head was ported and polished, new valves, and intake. He added a dual 4 barrel setup, which I am going to remove and put just one on. And I personally replaced the gas tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, and belts last summer. So in all its a really good driving car. The question is, is it still fast in a straight line? Thats the issue, because getting it to launch is a beast. Even with 15 inch wide slicks. Never dynoed it, but I bet it has close to 400 horsepower now.

What did 442 mean again? Is it the displacement, or is it something else?

it meant something like
4 speed
4 valve
2 exhaust
I think, but they stood for something. Just not a 442 expert. I just try to keep the car dry, rear window leaks like a siv. Needs major body work, would involve repainting the entire car and redoing the top. And extensive welding and cutting. All for 1/2 inch of rust.
Go figure.

Saw a 67 Camaro the other night at the track. It was yellow with balck stripes an a black "hockey stripe". No loud ass exhaust no big 3 valve blower hat stickn out the hood stock lookn rims (note the drag radials though) Pulls upto the line against some ricer mocking and smiling with that "shoulda traded for a Vtec" look. Most cars that look and sound like this one are low 14-high 13 cars that win shows. This could have easily won most that it entered. And the run.....12.06 @ 117 mph. And it was 90 deg with 90% hum. I was 4 tenths and 4 mph off on every run i did compared to how i usually run (mostly due to consistant 2.35 short times...track prep sucked). Figure on a decent track day with some prep this dude was easy in the 11.7 range. And about as loud as mine was stock. Kinda makes ya think twice about judging a book by its cover. Peace.
