Hello all,
This my first post here. I'm in the process of purchasing a 1995 540 6-Speed with 88k miles. The car is in great condition but there is one thing wrong with it, it has this vibration anytime your around 1900-2200 rpm. The owner said he noticed this after he got the motor mount changed. He took it back to the place that changed the mounts and they indicated that everything is good. He just recently took it to another place that looked at the clutch and said everything is good and had it in writing. What do you guys think, should I buy this or pass it by.

How bad is the vibration? It is a ten year old car.

I know mine is a bit of a vibration, although I couldn't tell you the RPM that it does it at.

How does it drive? Good acceleration?

Does it have a Nikasil block? Is the radiator original? Does it have any mods?

It's not too bad but it is noticeable. I really like the car but I am concerned about the vibration. I'm afraid it will get worse.

You can take it to get checked out before you buy it.

Call a bmw mechanic(or dealer) and ask him if you can do a check out on this car. My check out cost me $80, and they look at everything.

If you really want the car, and you want to make sure it is a good one, get it checked out first.

It's bone stock, drives great, really fast! He told me it has the alusil block but you never know. The BMW Dealer will charge me $110 to run a diagnotic.

I've got a similar symptom in my newly acquired 94 540. The vibration doesn't seem to be consistent. Let me know what you find out. I think I've still got the Nikisil block, but it still runs strong.

How does your car idle?
