Hi guys
I wanted to let you know that the following company:
North Hollywood Speedometer
6111 Lankershim Blvd.
North Hollywood, CA 91606
Tel. 818-761-5136
Fax. 818-761-4857
info@nhspeedometer.com
will make custom boost gauges. I just had them make me a gauge with the following range:
0-30 in Hg to 0-15psi boost VDO
The gauge says "BOOST" not "TURBO"
VDO used to make them in their cockpit series, but they are now backordered for months and months. I recieved mine in one day for 60.00 dollars. :redspot

Cool. Do you know if they can get a gauge to match VDO's Vision series?

Only if I didn't have Defi Boost gauge...
Bar reading is a bit useless to me cause I can't calculate it into psi fast enough in my head yet. Maybe I will get used to it. :help

Yes, they can swap internals to match different gauge faces and styles. You pay a bit of a premium at 60.00 dollars but you get what you want.

I will post a picture of the gauge tonight. I paid 60.00 to have the gauge built with "boost" labeled on the face.

I know....you got a great deal! They are very hard to find. BMP is back ordered for months at 50.00 dollars. NH speedometer was laughing at how many calls they get for this gauge and VDO is still not producing them in a new style. Some companies just don't get it. How many of us with superchargers run freakin' 25 lbs of boost....duh?

Very nice :) I wonder how do they calibrate the boost gauge for 15 psi if originally they came displaying 20 psi ?
I think I might go for one as I am surely not running any where close to 15 much less 20 psi on my autometer.
With the 15 psi shows much more resolution not that my eyes is on the boost gauge all the time. :)

It is true VDO -- it came in an OEm VDO box. It is exactly calibrated as i had a 0-15 psi boost gauge previous ( without vacuum) and the new one reads exactly the same value.

How's the lighting with it? Can you take a picture at night please?

if it uses vdo internals it should be the same since the light filter is a bulb condom.

The problem if you're trying to run Vision and Cockpit both is that Vision gauges are side lit and have a lit needle, the Cockpit gauges are backlit and don't have a lit needle, an angular bezel and have a deeper recess to the gauge face than the Vision. They clash a little bit during the day, they don't match at all during the night.
I run very bright red LED lighting instead of the condom bulb on my gauges, and even that won't help the Cockpit blend in. As far as the Cockpit gauge matching dash lighting, it's always dimmer than I'd like.

Actually, Croak just answered my question... looks like Cockpit is like Autometer where they're backlit... crap! :(

Croak, I asked for this in another thread, but maybe you didn't see it, do you think you can grab a picture of your gauge(s) at night sometime?
Thanks,
Boris

I used a higher wattage bulb in mine with an amber bulb condom for brighter lighting. It seems to match the OEM nicely, except it is edge lit.

Like I said in another post, I'm running all Vision now (Oil Press, 0-15 Boost, Oil Temp), and the Cockpit is now a handheld.
I really wanted the vac, but just could not live with the way it looked next to the other gauges, and really couldn't live with how it looked at night (hard to read unless you used an unwrapped white bulb, with a condom or the red LED it's very dim).
I'm about to replace the Boost gauge with an black/black XD-1 programmed to do AFR in the sweep LED's and MAP in the digital display. Still doesn't solve my desire for vac, but really, if there's a vacuum issue, you usually don't need a gauge to detect it, just to verify it. But it's cool having the needle bounce around all over while you're driving, with a CF a regular boost gauge doesn't have much activity most of the time. :)
But while I'm in there swapping out the gauges, I'll try to quick install the Cockpit and get some dark shots of it with the three lighting options I have.
