My 2001 740iL came by way of CPO--McKenna BMW in Norwalk, CA to be exact. Car had 57K--thought I got a good deal esp. because I wanted CPO warranty. At delivery, car had loose trim at left rear door (broken mounts) and the famous missing pixels on the dash display. I was assured both would be repaired under CPO.
Only 3000 miles later, I had an expansion tank leak repaired, along with the dash display. No problem--CPO came through. Trim repair? No go. Also paid to have 60000 mile service/inspection done, to discover rear ball joints are worn and in need of repair. CPO? No--that's a wear and tear item. Don't they inspect and R&R vehicles as part of CPO program? If not, why pay more $$$ for CPO? Could have saved over $5K with private dealer, and then purchased extended warranty (can get one as long as car is under 60,000 miles). Dealer also states lower control arms cracked--independent mechanic disagrees, says they're fine. That's going to be another interesting story.
Now I replaced the broken trim myself to discover it leaves a gap 3/8" wide where it meets front part of the trim. Close inspection shows the trim at the front begins too far down into the door seal. Strongly suspect manufacturing defect, which then caused the rear trim to be misfit (around the Hofmeister Kink), leading to the broken mounts. Shouldn't CPO repair all of this? Thoughts about how to present the case? Or should I just forget it 'cause they won't do anything?
