I have a 2002 525i. There is dry white coolant residue on the side of my radiator, on the fan blade edges and inside the seat where the radiatorcap screws in. The top of the coolant float has slowly (over 2 months) dropped from being an eigth of an inch above the fill neck to being almost 2 inches below it. This in the morning at full cold.

There is no sign of coolant on the fan belt which would indicate a faulty water pump.

The dealer says nothing is wrong. Has anyone else experienced this? Are these radiator caps known to fail to hold a pressurized seal after they get a couple years old?

thanks from a newby in oregon

They can fail, just get a new radiator cap. About 16 bucks at the dealer.

Yep, replace the radiator cap first. Cheapest and easiest. If it still leaks, could be a cracked resevoir/radiator.
