I would be hesitant on the diy on this one.
When I bought my car, my window fell out of the track, I took it back to the dealer(used car dealer), and their service dept put it in. Next thing I know, I am driving down the road and I roll it down a little bit and POP! The thing falls out of the track and shatters in my door!
They had the car for 3 days, and I know have wind noise all the time.
Just my own horror story.

e34 or e39? when i replaced the drivers side window regulator, i took the glass out. once it is disconnected from the regulator, you can pull it up and it will angle out. i think i pulled the back top corner out first, and the curve of the door and glass let the glass slide to the outside of the track, and out of the car. it wasnt that hard, i just took my time and tried different angles. putting it back in was the hard part, trying to get the seal where the glass goes into the door to fold back up after it folded in when i put the glass back in. just be careful not to scratch the tint if you have any.
