Hello guys

I want to get the differential gear ratio changed ,,
the car is E34 540 with 2.93 and the suggested one is 3.25

so if I changed it to the higher one which is 4.10 how I'll deal with it ?

now the car can go for 250 Km/h if I changed it to the 4.10 what is the milage loss will be ??

and will it be justified by the drastic increase in acceleration ??

thanx guys

I personally wouldn't go that high. While I have no direct knowledge the jump from 2.93 to 3.25, it is about the same as going with a 3.38 from a 3.15 in a us m3 which makes a HUGE diff. and doesn't hurt 1st and 2nd too bad. I would think that with a 4.10 it would be HORRIBLE!

Any other suggestions ??
I hope it will not damage my car tranny

top end will suffer a huge loss if going to 4.10. If you want to drag its great for acceleration, for the road it will slow you down and you will be reving the crap out of your engine. Like driving in 1 gear to short.

I think E34nication had a 4.11 and switched to a 3.15 or a 3.25.

dude, a 4.10 will be a very high ratio with all that power from a v8. first and second gear will be use less. I have a 3.45:1 stock in my e34 535 with the turbo and that works well. you should give diffsonline a call. dan will be able to help you with whatever you need.

I am not going to even read other peoples replys, hopefully they told you that going from a 2.93 to a 4.10 is like asking for a top speed of 60mph

I had a 3.64 from an e31 in my car and switched to a 3.15 LSD unit. If you do a search you should be able to pull up the mph vs. rpm comparison i did for those two rear ends. A 4.10 is going to be way too short IMO. Redline in 6th with the 3.64 was pretty much right at 160 FYI.

i used the 4:45 before and gut the top acceleration of this m30 it is about 6 sec ,and now i am using the 3.07 diff it is about 8.5 sec acceleration.
but:1- the 4:45 top speed is 240km\h with bad acceleration between 120-200
in case of automatic gearbox and littel better with the 5sp manual
gearbox,in case the 3.07 have a bad acceleration between 0-100 km\h
but a lovely top speed 280km\h and good acceleration between
120-240 and i think that the turbo love this diff.
2-when we are talking about lossing the acceleration between
12-200 km\h in the 4.45 we have to talk about eating the fuel
becouse when we have the 140km\h speed we have 4000 rpm
with high fuel spending,in case the 3.07 has the 2500rpm and less
fuel spending.
the 4.45 made 120 km\20 liter intown or highway in less than 120km\h
the 3.07 made 140km\ 20 liter intown and 200 km\20 liter in the
highway.
so if your car are not a daily car you can put the big diff and injoy the acceleration,if not injoy the smooth drive and more economic with the smal one.
