What do you guys think about these cars?

So my parents are looking for a new car (yes jimmy, my dad! I will be posting asking how he should drive it soon) and we've found two cars so far. Both are 2003 540iA's.

Car #1 : Blk/Blk 03 540ia with sport and premium package with navigation (this guy didnt know what PDC was...so not sure what other options it had). He is asking $50,800 and the car as 18k miles

Car #2: stling gry/blk 03 540ia with sport and premium package. No nav or PDC. He is asking $46,000 and the car has 14.5k miles.

Obviously the second car is the better deal, but what do you think about the price of both cars? To high or to low?

Also, does anybody have an active car fax account that can help me out?

I'd take car #2. You can use the money you save on rims. Also, do you really need nav?

nope, we have a magellen one already =p. We are thinking about offering the second guy ~40k...you think he would go for that? trade is is about 37k and private party is 43k..

You know you can get a extremely nice 00 or 01 for in the 20's...private party.
Why spend 40+K on a 2 year newer car that's basically the same?
If I was going to spend that kind of money it had better be a E39 M5 not a 540.

I agree with the above. Both cars seem to have a pretty steep premium.

I'd get something a year or two older for much less.

Get an M5 instead, or like some one said above get a 2001 E39 more value for your money.

Ill keep looking, it seems that for $30000 a older 540i has almost 50k miles. For me that would be okay, but the folks want something with less miles. Thank you for all of yours suggestions.

If I was spending that much money it would have to be brand new or a used M5. I wouldn't spend that much one a used 540. Why not get a 2002 540?

I don't like the E60 545 but just to give you an example of how overpriced those cars are, here is a 2004 E60 545 with 14,000 miles and similar options for $50,000.

i know the first one is waaay over priced. Like i said, we are hoping to walk away from a 03 540i for $40k. I wish we could get a new 545i. My mom just hates the idrive with heart. Do you think for $40k the second car would be worth it?

My X5 has both navigation and PDC. The NAV is wonderful as well as asthetically pleasing, the 7" screen really looks nice on the dash. I don't even use it that much but its great when I'm going somewhere I haven't been before which makes it more than worth it the few times I use it. The PDC is nice but I could live without it, I know how to park and judge distances so it doesn't do so much for me but its just a cool thing to have. I would definitely recommend the NAV, I used to hate taking directions from people especially people who don't drive so they don't really know the roads and now I never have to take directions from anyone again.

what seats are these? The car is suppose to have the sports package, but I thought the sports seats had the adjustable length thigh peice(no clue what its really called)?

it's actually funny how the E38's with sports package is rare and has the sport seats while with us, the sports with sport seats wants comfort seats... lol.. the irony.
