What do you guys think of the Fuzion ZRi for a summer tire for my 99M3 with 17 x 8 BBS RC's? Is there another tire I should also consider?

My priorities are:

#1 Handling
#2 Price
#3 Quiet

I will not do any driving schools or track days this summer.

Thanks, Steve

Fuzions are horrible tires, designed for the "import-tuner" crowd. Some Kumho MXs would fit your priorities.

So far, I'm happy with the Fuzion ZRi's. It's the first set of 'budget' tires that I've had for the M3 (and I've had it since Summer '97). They are a little noisier and not as sticky as many of the other 'ultra high performance tires'. But they're wearing great so far. My boss bought these for me, so I can't complain (it's the only tire WheelJerks had in stock). IMO, they're far from 'horrible', though.

Uh, don't bother getting the Fuzion...Kumho MX won't cost much more and they are worlds apart in performance.

I'm really pleased with my Sumitomo's ... not sure what model they are, maybe HTR+. They are cheap and quiet, and they handle quite well. Couldn't say much in the way of tread wear ... I've only been on them for about 1-2K miles

I've had the Fuzion's for the last 10k miles and have been very satisfied with them. They are quieter than the MX's, are about $200 cheaper for a set of 4 tires and they look like they could go another 10-15k miles easy. The bad part are the tires are a little skinnier, so the car's stance looks a little less aggressive than with the MX's. They have quite the rim guard as well..

The Kumho's I had didnt last long (roughly 10k miles), but they will perform much better when you really push the car. I'd say they are very good alternative to the much higher priced Michelin Pilot Sports. The Fuzion's were better for me as my car is a daily driver and I wanted a little bit more longevity. When I start auto-crossing I will probably get a set of Kumho's again.

my sumitomos have been alright, in terms of a smooth ride with little to no noise. i hate them for handling though. very cheap tires that come with cheap performance. i cant say much for treadwear as i have worn them down from donuts, drifting, and auto-xing..... :devillook

My car came with almost new Pole Position S-03s. The first 3 weeks with my new baby I took off a good 1/3 to 1/2 of the tread. I think I gave it a little too much power early on in 1st gear. :woot: .....about 30 times....

I just got some new fuzions about 1,000 miles ago, and they are bad, they are noisy, get bad cornering traction, and I even went wider with 255 from 245 in the back compared to my completely bald Mastercraft tires, and the fuzions get horrilbe straight traction.

I have Yokohama ES100's on my car right now. A month ago, I was swearing the tires off, due to quick tread wear (5k miles and the rear's are bald). I assumed it was the same all the way around, found out later that the fronts look brand new. That's when the decision to change the suspension came about. I bought another set of ES100's, as the fronts are fine, rather than swap out 4 new tires. I'm doign the suspension this weekend, as long as everything goes ok, the tires should be fine. About the road noise, I have no idea, I can't hear anythnig over the exhaust or stereo.

I've read good things about MX, but never tried them. I have Fusions I like fine at 5K miles. (BTW, they are the same "green tire" as the S03.) Too early to tell on wear. I've tried 5 different tires on the car and none of them are "worlds" apart in performance. The five different tires have been worlds apart in wear rate and cost. And tire noise. Look at the road test reviews and see the differences in cornering Gs and lap times between the tires, then consider what that difference means to you in your driving needs.

For more information, you can check out the numerous reviews of the ZRi at this site, where it pretty much out rates the hallowed S03:
