View Full Version : Did i Instal my GC coilovers right?

I dont have a pic, but i need to be sure i assembled the front struts correctly. I am reusing my strut hats, and swapping them side to side. As i take the old strut hat off, there is a small washer covering the bottom of the strut bearing (which i kept). Under that, there was a large washer (2" diameter maybe) which is slightly tapered larger on the inside. That washer would just fit into the GC spring hat. I chose not to use this big washer, because it didnt seem to fit in my mind. Did i do the right thing?

that large washer should be installed with the flat side towards the ground. keep the "cupped" washer right under the bearings and the large washer under that.

Sh*t, Are you sure about this? The washer just fits inside the top of the spring hat, and seems like it wouldnt be supported correctly. Also, with the washer in, the 22mm nut doesnt go down over the threads very far, not even enough so that the whole locking plastic is on the threads..... Can this be confirmed? Is there someone with photos?

I forgot that washer one time and noticed the mistake when the top portion of the strut assembly did not rotate as freely. I would say that you do need the washer....as much as I am sure you did not want to hear that

Mine looks just like the top picture, and the back is correct. I thought this was just for the conversion. My spring hat isnt castleated like that, but mine is put togather like that.
