For a e36 318 is there any performance gains to be had from putting on a carbon fiber hood.
If so anyone have any pics of or info or price's on them ?? I'd want one with windsheild squirters.

A CF hood isn't going to do a 318 a lick of good. Other than suck 1300 out of your walet. The BMW hood isn't all that heavy and there are lots of betther things to do with the money.

I agree with Brian, i rather save that money towards a Downing Atlanta SC for ur 318.

Ok will do. Just thought they looked cool and wondered how to make my car lighter for the track. Next is suspension then brakes.
My suspension will be here in around 10 days. I have the M3 rotors just need more parts.
I'd rather have a turbo for my 318 cuz i love how they sound.

If you want to take some serious weight out of the car, get a LTW battery, and get new seats, the stock ones weight quite a bit, esp. if they are electric.

seats I will get after I get brakes. But my battery is in the trunk so I like weight over the back axel. Anyone know the weight distribution of a e36 318is ?? I'm pretty sure I'm alil heavy in the front.

Only 'advantage' is weight reduction... even then, just take out your seats and spare and you've saved ~100lbs. Drive with only 1/4 tank of gas... theres some less weight... switch out the stock muffler... there is ~15lbs. All of those can be done for free, or much less than the cost of a silly (I think) CF hood.

If you have power seats in that car, changing to a sparco evo or something on both sides will save you about 100lbs, thats substantial enough to notice. A Mashaw CF hood and trunk would be nice, but I dont think the bang for the buck is there, esp. if you arent tracking the car.

A CF hood would be cool and all, but I wouldnt personally spend the money on one.

Great point Stephen... take away weight with a bunch of fancy CF stuff then buy 40lb full chrome rims and a fat system :laugh .

Theres a guy who thinks hes a real smart one.. he removed all his sound insulation.. spare tire.. I believe the A/C also.. seats.. everything else.. what did he do? add it all back with a stereo..
some people need a clue
If you wreck your car or something and are going to get like 600 dollars for a new hood and you can find a CF hood for 600.. eh.. why not go for it.. you may require hoodpins or at the least a hood prop..
To reduce weight... hmm.. if you are going to keep it a daily driver theres alot of things you wouldnt want to do.. Do change out the seats if you have heated/power seats.. A lighter battery would help.. you could remove the spare only if you have a rescue thing on your cellphone and some fix-a-flat and an air compressor in the trunk..
front end... front end.. hmm... I cant really think of too much if you were to keep it a daily driver... lighter wheels/tires.. replacing panels with lighter weight panels.. *shrug*

Yeah, I was wondering whether I should get a CF hood too. I let my brother drive my car to SF Bay and managed to have a piece of re-tread fly up and put a nice little (2"X1/2") gouge in my hood :(. I just got a quote for between $1200 - $1600 depending on whether I want to replace the hood or have it repaired! It's rediculous... Anyway, I've seen pure CF hoods for around $600 before so for an extra $100-$200 from stock, I've been considering it. Of course, for that price, I don't know if I should expect a quality, nice fitting product.
Oh, just a bit of random trivia. I was reading in autocar magazine that in the UK, Viper owners have to pay about 20,000 pounds for a new hood  (of course it is the entire front end). Makes me feel a wee bit better about the cost of my car...:)

Austin, I thought we were going to hook up some 200 shot NOS and kill your engine, then put your 325 engine in? :)
Personally I think Carbon Fiber hoods look terrible, you end up sacrificing your cars beauty for a small reduction in weght.
Let me know if you still wanna lace the 200 shot.
