So this weekend I went into Rasmussen Mini in Portland, looked at a few cars and I decided that I want to order one. I went over all the options and found what I liked. So then I started asking more questions and found it's a 6 to 8 MONTH wait for a car. That will give me barely any time with this car before I go off to school, and that just will not work for me. Now I know there are wait times on these cars, but I heard they were closer to 6 to 8 weeks, not months. Is there any way to get it here quicker? Any dealer that would be better for me to work with that anyone knows of?

Welcome to the party pal.
If you look in the back of GrassRoots Motorsports magazine, there is a South Carolina MINI dealership offering new standard (non-S) Mini's for $17,999. I imagine they're willing to ship anywhere across the US. From what I understand, demand is much lower on the east coast.

:lol Yep, that's about right!
From what I understand, demand is much lower on the east coast.
Actually, demand over here is quite strong, especially in the larger urban/suburban areas with thick traffic & tight parking. But there are several other factors that make the East coast easier place to buy a Mini.
For one, we're closer to England. The cars come across the Atlantic, and boom! They're here. West coasters get to go all the way down and through the Panama canal, then back up to the the other side of things. That's where some of your time gets tacked on (though not all of it).
It may also be that dealer allotments in the East are higher, so turnaround and available slots for orders are more plentiful. Fewer cars and allotments mean more waiting.
I've also heard that by and large, dealers here in the East tend to sell at MSRP, while many Western dealers (most notably in the PRK) tend to jack up the price. I know of several folks who ordered theirs thru a dealer in the East, flew over here one-way to take delivery, and drove it back home. I have no idea what sort of red tape is involved in doing that, but it was evidently worth it for some.
In any case, best of luck to you, and again, welcome to the club. :)

I just ordered mine in Cleveland, 8 week wait time. They have a couple siiting in the lot. The sales guy mentioned they ship 5-6 cars out west a year, due to demand.

Nope. They're all made at the original (though thoroughly re-tooled, modernized, and updated) Mini factory site in Oxford, England.

not unless you are willing to pay considearably more than MSRP... one of the people in my old neibourhood was one of the first to get a mini cooper and they shelled our almost twice MSRP for the privillage!?

Not at all. Just find a dealership in a major airline hub city that doesn't have a wait list. Order one. They will give you your production number which you can use to track its progress (don't know how detailed it is, I haven't looked yet.) When you have an estimate on its arrival date, schedule a few days off work and buy a plane ticket there. Then just fly down, pick it up, and drive it back... Even a worst-case $400 plane ticket, a few $75/night hotels, and $60/day food stops, plus gas should still leave you at less than $1,000 over MSRP.
I ordered one this past Monday from Moritz Mini in Arlington, TX which is very close to the DFW airport. I got the last production slot in April so they said I should have it by the last week of May. I'm in Fort Worth so it's not a problem getting there. Now all I need to do is get my 2001 330Ci with its competition sound system sold for a reasonable price (shameless plug).

Try MINI of the Hamptons in New York or Classic MINI in Ohio. I believe all cars are MSRP or may even be a little less. You can also try MINI of Hawaii and see if there is any open allocations. Maybe they can do a courtesy delivery at your local dealer instead of shipping it from Hawaii. If you do call them and ask for Justin. He sold me 3 of them.

I ordered mine and it took just under 6 weeks. Paid MSRP but the dealer through in some options for free...Ipod adapter..."S" matts...some jackets and shirts.
I am in North Carolina, about 3 hours from where the ship from Oxford docks in Charleston.
I just recieved my MCS on the 4th of this month i think, and i odered it in feb. I only waited about 8 weeks. ANd when i had my prior 05 non S i only wait 7 weeks. 8 Months is way too long. At my local dealership they have about 15 in stock. But they sell out quickly. I live in Miami.

I work at the Mini Dealership here in the Bay Area. We have a wait time of 11 months for the MCS, 6 for the MCSC, 6 for the Mini Conv and 5 for the Mini.
We sell all Mini Coopers for MSRP. Always have always will. Right now we have 2 Coopers for sale. Around Nor Cal I see added Markups from $2500-$6000 above MSRP.

Dude, Call Julie at Classic MINI in Mentor, OH. From everything I hear about her, she is great to work with and can most likely get you a car in less than 2 months for MSRP. From what folks on other forums have said, they have a good deal with a car carrier company that they can ship your car to your door cheaper than you may be able to go pick it up. Plus, the carrier they use is enclosed like the carrier that brings MINI's and BMW's to the dealer in the first place. Many people have said that she keeps them up to date as to the progress of their MINI, I think they throw in some free stuff, and she will take pictures of your car and send them to you when the car gets to the dealer. If I didn't live so close to a dealer that sells MSRP with a good allotment, I probably would have gone through them. :)
