Maybe something to do with the fact that it is a 95M3...with a $38,000 price tag? For that price you can buy two decent 95's and have some money left over for upgrades.
Maybe rarity does it for some people. I would rather drive my cars.

The lightweight is one of the coolest cars around but for that price E46 m3 all the way :D

I'd take a 95 lightweight over an E46 M3 any day.

For that price you can buy a stripped out E36 that's truly LTW for racing and a nice street E36. I don't get the fascination with the M3 LTW anyway.

you guys are missing the fact that it's a rare car... limited production run of what 100~125 cars? compare it to a '70 ss convertable chevelle that i saw on ebay that sold for over $75k and it needed a full restoration.
If I had that kinda bux to blow, I'd buy it and sit on it for about 10 years (keeping it up of course) then re-sell it. I'd bet there'd be quite a few rare car owners who'd be interested in it...

Take it from a former owner, those cars are special.
If you are a collector and want a pristine car then this is the one to get.
Make sure all the parts that came with the LTW are there (which it seems they are: front STB, X brace, wing with risers, dual pick up oil pan, splitter, flags on front and rear).
Some LTWs had actually 2 trunk lids, one with the regular 95 OEM wing and the other that the motorsport wing with risers was mounted on.
For 5 years had fun in the canyons and on the track with that car. I sold because I didn't need 2 E36M3s in the garage and it was the one to go. I also made room for my 04 40th anniversary 911, but, that's another story and boyhood wish fulfilled.

Marc

good advice!
I got my LTW with 14K miles on it...it was absolutely mint! I started to put some miles on it as I enjoyed driving it, I did DE's with it also, after a year I started instructing and used the car on track primarily, mods followed and the car changed, I think for the better, purists may not agree...it has a grand total of 61K miles on it, still in real nice shape, and is my H Prepared race car and I love racing the car, it's a great vehicle and I'm lucky to be able to enjoy the car in a way I always thought it was made to be used...I didn't plan on making this my race car, it was a progression over 3 years...that said, would I have done things differently and bought a turnkey race car if i had to do it all over again, probably, do I have any regrets about turning it into a race car, perhaps a bit...do I enjoy racing the car...absolutely, every lap :D ...and that's something that's tough to put a value on...thankfully LTW M3's are classified by VIN and each chassis is logged...hence, my car will always be an original LTW now with a racing logbook to go along with it :)

FWIW, I've seen the car up close, and know the owner. It's immaculate.

Nice low milage car but that's a tad too much. Collector car or not.

Wow. When I bought my car in 97 the dealer (saddleback/irvine BMW) still had one new on the showroom floor. By the time I bought my sedan in 97 they couldn't give it away (they had a heavy mark-up on it for the first year). I thought about it for a split second...but went with the sedan with AC and a radio. Mistake number 247. Mistake 248 was letting my e30 M3 go for $14K in 97 after I bought the e36. Car was near mint with 77K orig miles. Advertised it in autotrader and roundel, but nobody called. Took me 4 months to sell since no one was interested. :shifty

I'm not hating, I just haven't been around BMWs long enough to understand the LTW phenomenon. There is one thing that's sweet about the LTW that you can't get otherwise, the LTW oil pan. Oil pickup problems gone.

he exclusivity, and the fact that these were partially hand built by PTG, and has the BMW Motorsport additions. I've had a couple of comments from other M3 owners of why they feel that LTW is not worth the price because they can build one at home, and that's ok, but it's like comparing a 911 to a GT3, even if you build a 911 w/ the GT3 parts but its still not a GT3. As an CCA instructor I've driven may M3's E46 etc.. and the LTW has "light" feeling of an E30 with very similar power of an E46 (mine has cams, diff etc and weights approx. 2800 lbs) without seeing myself coming and going at the track, in fact, I've only seen one street driven LTW out of the 10 DE's I do annually. Every person who has driven my car also commented that they could feel an immediate difference on the track. In fact, my car is worth the same as it did when I first bought it, which makes it a decent investment too (not counting all the $$ I spend in mods :)
