Any one using Mobil 1 Racing 0W-30 syn Oil for High Performance Engines? I ordered 6 of them. Right now I have been using 0W-40 syn and I like it. The price was 9.95 per bottle. A little on the price side but I wanted to try it out. You can take a look at the stuff here : http://www.autobarn.net/mo1raoil.html
Let me know what you guys think!!!!

Damn thats a lot for oil...
IMO, 0-30 is way to light for any racing (or track for that matter) application, so the title on the bottle is a bit misleading. I run 15-50.

I'd agree with GotBHP?. For the track, you want something that won't get too thin at higher temps, so 15W50 is what I'd shoot for. Depending on the temp outside, I might even go a little thicker.

Welllll i am not really going to race my car. (maybe two schools a year if that). Just wanted to see if the thiner oil would help hp for more of a weekend car??? :confused

That oil is way overpriced even if it is "racing oil"
I dunno why but I felt a power increase with Mobil1 0W-40, great stuff.

Synthetics will free up HP by reducing friction, this is true not only in engine oil but also tranny and diff fluid, and some are better than others, but doubt that it's noticeable. More likely a placebo effect. My car always seems faster after I wash it! ;)

If you did get a hp increase, it was so small it couldnt be noticed. Its all mental.
I've used mobil 1 for years, but im contemplating switching to amsoil since i can get it 30% off wholesale and ive heard its the best.

the mobil1 Xw30 weight oil does not meet bmw's requirements for motor oil, it's actually too thin. you may actually be causing excessive wear to your motor. essentially hurting it more then you would normally.
Isn't 0W30 thoo thin, especially for the VANOS system? All M3 guys I know including myself run Castrol 10W60 in the euro models.

Thicker than 50 weight oil??? :confused

You guys should all do some research on oil. 0-30 is not too thin, it is synthetic an entire different animal from dino oil, does not break down, does not burn, lubes better, only gets dirty, just like dino oil and therefore needs to be changed regularly.
It does not cause any problems with our cars. In fact since it lubes better with less friction it is better for the engine than let's say 15-50 dino oil, which is what I always used to use in high revving engines. This is why it generally comes in thinner viscosities than dino oil. If you want to use heavier synthetic that is o.k., don't think it causes any harm, just may be a little thick in the winter time in colder climates.

Oh, forgot, yea that Mobil one racing oil does sound kind of expensive. I just use Mobil 1 fully synthetic 0-30.

you're right, do some research. mobil1 0w30 is too thin. it's the thinnest xw30 weight synthetic oil you can buy.
not all motor oil weights are created equal.

:shiftyThis looks like Mobil 0W20 synthetic to me. Thats thinner right?:confused

considering our cars came w/ 15-40 from the factory, i dont see why u wouldn't run what bmw reccommends, they do more research than any of u peeps on here. don't question them

i ran 0w-30 mobile one and i loved it. however a few things.. first off its only $5 at autozone, second its really thin so (pours like water at room temp). however as a results it provide immediately lubrication at start in cold conditions and etc so it starts protecting much sooner. it does burn alittle but then again most oils do in our cars.

Well i guess this stuff is BS??
"Previously available only to professional racing teams, the Mobil 1 Racing OW-30 formula combines the best of Mobil 1's patented SuperSyn™ technology with boosted levels of anti-wear additives, giving maximum protection and minimizing internal friction for exceptional power output. The specially designed high-performance motor oil is recommended for professional and amateur horsepower enthusiasts because it provides the performance drivers want from their high-powered engines every time they get behind the wheel. Mobil 1 Racing Oil also incorporates anti-wear technology to help protect supercharged, turbocharged and high-revving engines with outstanding shear stability and a robust additive package to extend engine life. Compared to conventional racing oils and higher-viscosity synthetic motor oils, Mobil 1 Racing provides faster flow to critical engine parts to provide the ultimate in performance."

The AutoZone around me stopped selling the 0W-40. So that’s way I tried the 0W-30 because I got it on-line. Oh and the guy at AutoZone said that ALL AutoZone’s are going to stop carrying it. I don’t know how true that is, I wish the one near me still had it. :(

Not BS. It’s called marketing, the art of reshaping your needs.
If you do feel a difference, which I'm sure you will, it will be the result of going to clean oil. Especially if you go with longer intervals between oil changes.

Correct me if I am wrong but I my M3 requires closer to 7 qts than 6.
so mobil 1 5w/30 is bad for our engines? The bmw oil is 5w/30 isn't it?

You are right! I put in 1qt of Rislone Engine Treatment, helps the clean the valves and lifters. No more (tic tic tic tic) I have a post on it

My local Dealership puts Mobil 1 5W-30 in all the M3s they do oil changes on. Can't see why they would do this if BMW doesn't reconmend it....

this is correct. I know it's weird as hell but look on the bottle of mobil1 0w30 or 5w30 and try and find the bmw approval stamp. it ain't there cause it doesn't meet bmw's standards for protection. grab a bottle of castrol syntec 5w30 and you'll find the BMW approval code on there.
now grab a bottle of mobil1 0w40 and you'll find the bmw approval on there.
why? cause it turns out that there are varying grades of each viscosity of oil. the mobil1 0w30 and 5w30 are actualy very thin Xw30 motor oils. TOO thin for BMW motors as per BMW. yes I was surprised and confused too till I researched it more for myself.
my motor was burning M1 5w30 like crazy till I switched to castrol syntec 5w30. it turns out the M1 5w30 was too thin!
bottom line - get changed asap to m1 0w40 or change brands if you want to stick with a Xw30 weight motor oil.

ignorance? if a motor pops and they test the oil.....bmw na can deny the warranty coverage.

ignorance? if a motor pops and they test the oil.....bmw na can deny the warranty coverage. Although they would have to prove that the oil was the direct cause. Mazda tried to pull this on my son when his Mazda 3 had valve problems at 15K...one call to our state attorney general and it was brand new zoom, zoom, zoom time :D

So I guess you are saying go back to my M1 0W-40? Did you read about the M1 0W-30? I will have to look on the bottle when I get it. To see if this new racing M1 0W-30 has the BMW code on it. What is the code #? I mean I don’t want to do anything to hurt my engine.

consider that bmw makes an effort to approve oils for use with your car. it's like using power steering fluid for your power steering rack (it uses ATF). it'll burn out/get damaged and you'll be to blame...I do think that it's fair on bmw's behalf.
---
yes, go back to 0w40. yes I read that about M1 0w30 and 5w30, it sucks cause they are more plentiful then 0w40 and this is why I switched to Castrol Syntec 5w30.
bottom line - mobil1 Xw30 is thinner then Castrol Xw30 etc.
the code will just have a bmw rating number on it, it means that bmw approves this oil for their motors designed to run on that weight oil such as your car and mine.

I have noticed i burn more m1 5w/30 than the bmw synthetic oil, but for some reason the mobil 1 "feels" better :dunno
