Gonna buy some DDE's.... wanted to get some opinions - should i spring for the HID? or is just as cool without HID?

I am one of the very few who (atleast thats how I feel in SoCal!) that thinks HIDs and DDEs don't belong on E36's.

However the ZKW or Bosch OEM Euro projectors are AWESOME. They really improve your lighting, make the car look better (to me) and are OEM so no real hassle. Mine should be coming any day now...

zkws with 4500k HIDS is a HUUUUUUUUUUGE improvement over stock. I drove an e36 with stock headlights and it seemed like the lights weren't even on.

Of course you should get HIDs. That shouldn't even be a question.

EDIT: Unless you don't drive at night. Then don't get them.

defenitly get the HID's. You won't regret it after you see how much better you see at night and how much better they look outside the car.

every premiere (and not so) car manufacturer is integrating HID lighting into their vehicles...I would say it's a must get...

I would definitely go with HID. If it's just to see better go with 4500k or 5000k. I would definitely go with the 5000k kit from Prolumen. LAwrence has them on his car. THey look good and you'll be able to see better.

We have a group buy going on Prolumen HID's for $300 shipped.

Of course HID is worth it. DDE's on the other hand, are not.

HIDs are definitely a huge improvement if you do a lot of night driving. They are easy to install with the PnP.

Plus they look sweet.

HID's are definately worth it. DDE's aren't, you can almost get a Xtec kit for the same price! If you wanna spend money go ahead, but they are just for looks and IMO don't belong on E36's.

yes, 4300-4500 is the brightest kevlin b/c it has the most lumens..... if you go up or down from that, the lumens will go down (it will be worse below 4300k)

check the bimmer rides & styling section

yes, HID's can be put into any headlamp as long as the bulb type is correct. but it is definitely recommended to get projectors first

Halogen ish? No halogen bulbs get near as white as HID's, and they are much brighter so you have to be a complete moron to mistake them for halogens. Plus you can modify the cut-off shield to give a bluer/more colorfull cut-off so it will look more like OE HIDs which are all 4100K and 4300K. 6000K will be very blue but you will also loose output. 4500K is pure white and has the best output, 5000K is white with a slight blue tint and 6000K is more of a blue/purple. Wouldn't get anything higher than 5000K. You will get less light the higher Kelvin you get, and in rain you'll see even less as blue doesn't reflect as good as yellow or white off wet surfaces. So it's down to what mathers the most to you. Good light or looks? And remember, as HID's age the Kelvin rating goes up so would you rather start at 6000K and go towards 7000K or start at 4500K or 5000K and go towards 6000K?

On the topic of HID's and projectors does anyone sell projector headlights that take the 9006 bulb? I have a set of 9006 HIDs and would perfer them on my m3 rather than my crx :D

no, most projectors i have seen (like the OEM euro style) are H1. i have depo projectors similar to umnitza's projector36 and it requires H7 bulb sizing.

Spec you can install the HIDs into the stock headlights which are 9006. You won't get as sharp of a beam but you will still have better light output b/c the HIDs produce more light.

But you will blind everyone else, it's NOT recommended to put HID's into stock US headlights.

i used to have 8000s. and it was crazy purple. w. decent output. now that i have 6000 the output is alot better, i think if i was to have a 4500 or whatever it'd be too bright, its already illegal

yours was 8000? hmm.... i have a really good kit & mine is truly aqua blue. the only part of mine that is remotely purple is at the cutoffs of the projectors. i love my 8000s. anyways, yes, HIDs in stock US headlamps is a horrible idea
