Has anyone has success fitting 255-45-ZR17 tires on stock rear 1997 M3 17 X 8.5 Doublespoke II wheels? I have the opportunity to purchase a set of two slightly used rear tires in that size for a very good price and would like to be sure they'll fit first.

Thank you in advance.

i had 245/45/17s on the rear before and it looked really weird. the sidewall was way too high for my taste. the 255 will be even higher.

Price shouldn't be an object when it comes to optimal tire size. The 255/45/17 can mount on the stock rears, but much too tall. Would probably throw the occasional ABS light, to boot.

Back in the day when the rear 245/40ZR17 Michelin Pilot SX MXX3 was the oem tire and you could only get them if you had an M3 vin because they kept getting back ordered. Many BMW dealers and owners started putting the 255/40ZR17 on many M3s successfully. I actually put a pair on a set of 8.5 Contours . However if your car is lowered , and properly aligned they had a tendendeny to rub on the passengers side. Simple solution -roll the fenders. The 255/45 would be too large though (tall), too bad you didn't see the two near new Michelin Pilot sports I had advertised for $200. a pair. They were like new and perfect. (guys sending me the money tomorrow). Good luck!

Thanks for all the usefull information. I was thinking that would be the case, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

also forgot to mention that you'll change your gear ratio.
