good luck, my advice from friends that have been there is let them know who you are and what you're about, most guys are so lonely that someone new that comes into their "circle" with a positive attitude about the situation will actually look up to you. Jail is a great classroom for interpersonal comm. majors. Good luck with that and good luck with the races!!!

 :(

Couple years back, round 10 lol, I spent a week and a half in LA County, (never go to court and got lost in the system, long story) any way a bit shorter than you are going for. But it wasn't bad, spent a lot of time playing cards and reading, it was kind of like a boys club, not a big deal. The only thing missing was women lol. You will be alright, dont be cocky but don't take any garbage either and most people will be cool. Good luck.

Oh noes. Dude, you will be through it in no time. Ask for a work release cell, you may get one you may not, but it is worth asking. Don't be an e-baller, and no one will give you a hard time.

I'll be the first to admit this (still pissed from yesterdays trial), our judicial system is the fuxors. :mad

Dennis gets 45 days for traffic stuff (so I know at least :devillook ) and yet a home invasion robbery suspect that basically admits to everything gets off with a "not guilty" jury verdict. Simply disgusting. May I vomit now? :barf

I know this is Molloy's domain as DA General Counsel, but I'm bored.
Here's the applicable Utah Statute :
41-12a-303.2. Evidence of owner's or operator's security to be carried when operating motor vehicle -- Defense -- Penalties.
* * *
(2) (a) (i) A person operating a motor vehicle shall:
(A) have in the person's immediate possession evidence of owner's or operator's security for the motor vehicle the person is operating; and
(B) display it upon demand of a peace officer.

I understand you can usually get such a ticket dismissed by going to court and showing a legit proof of insurance.

Yes, having that little piece of CURRENT paper in your glove box will save a lot of aggravation. P.S., the fines in WVC at least are astronomical for the no proof or no insurance.

Because they usually are done pulling you out at gunpoint via the PA system and ask you this later. :D

chasmanbmwfan
02-27-2005, 01:57 AM
I saw a thread in here somewhere talking about using the proof-of-insurance requirement to talk yourself out of a ticket. I couldn't find it so I'll try to summarize.

When pulled over for speeding, be real polite and respectful and hand the cop an expired proof of insurance in addition to your license and registration. The cop then has to decide whether to write you for speeding AND no proof of insurance or just one. As noted, the fines are generally higher (or just as high) for no proof of insurance. Thus, the municipality benefits more from a no-proof-of-insurance citation. You obviously try to persuade the cop to write you just for no proof of insurance. If he does this, just take your up-to-date card to court and they will dismiss the charge.

If the cop indicates he is going to write you both, keep searching through your papers and then announce "Here it is... I found it ... I knew I had it all along" and he will then just write you for speeding.

(by the way, I just got my new radar detector and it's save my tail twice just today) :)

RoadsterMike
02-27-2005, 11:58 AM
Jail does suck but, come on! We all most likely get our fair share of a ticket or two which means we speed, get caught, we pay! BUT, driving suspended without a license is irresponsible and driving without insurance is just UNSAFE!
FTA's are not the brightest either.

Like I said, it sucks but being a bit more responsible and safe would have kept you from these problems. I have to ask, how is it that you have the means to afford your hot rod but lack the means and responsibilty to ensure act like the rest of us. Oh, and before everyone flames my ass for this, let me say, I too have made a few dumb decisions but the seems WAY TOO HIGH A PRICE to pay for slowing down, paying a hundred frickin dollars a month for insurance and showing up for court once and a while. Sounds like you are irresponsible and lazy......what a hard way to learn about life. Best of luck to you.

chasmanbmwfan

What flavor did you get?

I got the Pro RX75 from Bell. http://www.beltronicspro.com/rx75.html
Car concepts installed it and did a FANTASTIC job. They installed a green LED in the dash that flashes red when radar/laser is detected -- it looks like a factory job. There is a detached mute button concealed in one of the small storage compartments in my front console. The display is in the center storage compartment in the console.

It's saved me two tickets in two days.
