I took my car to costco to get new tires put on, the bf goodrich kdw ta, now on costco's website the show the picture of regular treaded tires, I get to costco and they show me these crazyass pterodactyl looking tires. I ask them you know wtf is this, your website didn't show these pictures ( trying to stay calm after I forked over $665 ) I say you know these aren't the tires I ordered off, I wasn't excepting them to look like this, I need tires now is there something comparable you can give me. Well no, since m3 tires seem to be special order only. And they can't do anything about it, other than put them on and charge me regular price. I tell them to have the manager call me in the morning, he tells me he can take of installation charges, fine save $40, but still cost me the trip, usually I would love it, but it was pooring.
My dad had to go up the second time, since I had work. Well these morons decide they are not going to clean the tires, and I cleaned my rims before I took it to them ready for nice new tires to look snazzy, well my wheels were covered in some sort of film, not brake dust.
Okay so they false advertise the wrong tires on there website, get my wheels flithy, and don't bother to clean my new tires, strip one of my lug nuts, fine I'm getting wheel locks soon anyways.
But now they put the wheel weights very close to the outside of the wheel, before I had them on the far inside so no one could see them and it looks like crap. I'm so furious now, and my dad is like no big deal, did he just fork over 665 for tires, no!!!!! God Damnit

While it is nice cosmetically to hide the adhesive weights in the middle of the rim, putting them closer to the outside edge is more effective, using the "clip on" type even more so.

Depending on the balance equipment they used it may have had them put the weights on the inside for a reason. The Hunter machine we use tells the technician right where to put the weights.
I guess when companies mess up like this it is good for our business. We don't normally operate like that.
Call me the next time.

you think I can take it back and have them rebalance it with the wieghts further on the inside. It says on there website free balancing any time, I think I will go tomorrow and bitch.
I don't know why but this makes me so pissed to see crap like this

Well, my shop put the weights on the inside and outside edges. They wouldn't put them anyplace else. I wanted what you have, in the center inside of the spokes.

Okay, wait. You want them to move the weight from the center to the inside edge?
Like Jim@Tirerack said, a balancing machine like a Hunter will tell the tech where to put the weight, either on the outside or inside lip. If the machine says to weight the outside lip, putting it on the inside lip for looks' sake is wrong, putting in the center of the rim is a common cosmetic comprimise, but still is not better.
Be grateful they didn't stick out on your outside lip. If the machine asks for it, it's the best place to put it if you value function over form.

wow
just wow
First of all the goodrich KDW is a better tire than the stock m3 tire anyway.
2nd of all, you are sounding a lot like the bad stereotypical bmw owner here.

if you want perfection don't go for costco prices. you have to pay for it. you should be mad at yourself for taking your car there and having high expectations. taking your car to costco and expecting them to cater to your special aesthetic wants/needs is ridiculous. be glad you got an upgraded tire. that's like taking your car to jiffy lube and whining that they stripped your drain plug.
:buttrock
I understand your frustration. But, they balanced your wheels properly, and got you the newest tires out there, that you ordered. Perhaps you should have checked the tires before they mounted them? And for $600, you bought tires - they waived their installation fee from what I see, so they're making close to nothing on that deal.
I'd be really careful with my attitude when I went there. Since they're not making much, if anything on this transaction, they might just tell you to take your business elsewhere for good.

They gave you new/updated version of what you originally ordered. They balanced the tires properly. WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT?! Do you want your car to look good or work properly? I'd take the latter. If you go back, you'll just make yourself look like an ass.

The only legitimate complaint I see that you have is on the tire. It is the newer/better version of what you ordered. However, it isn't what you expected. They don't have "the look" you want. You accepted them for free mount and balance. Move on.
I still don't see what your complaint about the weights is. You have a problem with the single weight? :dunno I have a single weight on the lip of one of my wheels.
Get some real problems already. Try dealing with Progressive to get your car fixed properly.

thanks guys, I over reacted a lot, they were able to fix it no problem, and said it is a common request.
Now to get all that sticky crap off from the weights
