Also, why do you worry so much if somebody races in a straight line in a bimmer? Sure it isn't what it is meant for, but some people can't or won't drop $300+ to go to a DE to "race" other people.

The only fast cars I have beat in a straight line are a Porsche 911 RS America and modded Z28, both from a roll. But this is a while ago; I find it too big of a risk to street race. Granted, both times it was in the middle of nowhere with friends, but still....

Sounds like someone who's never actually dragraced. Hitting the loud pedal only takes a pulse, but it takes some skill to really drive a car fast in a straightline.

I beat Steve Dinan himself once...in his "personal" car....no lie.

On the way to Laguna Seca, in my AA turbo'ed 95 M3 (this was a while ago), he rolls up behind me at a stop sign in his white 95 SC M3...front plate said "DINAN". He revs it, etc. So, I roll out and he follows, then I roll into the throttle to see if he is game, he is. He is right on my bumper....So we rip down the highway and I pull on him fairly good. Got about 7+ car lengths on him before we had to back out of it. There was no question that he was or was not "hammering it". He was. After I got to the track (he was teaching that day), I went over and introduced myself, etc. He was like "What do you have in there". I told him the AA kit, etc. and then he started to bash on the AA kit bigtime and told me how much better his kit was....etc etc etc....I was thinking, I just pulled on you pretty hard and you are telling me your kit is better? Ya, ok. So we parted ways with me feeling that this guy was rather snobbish and had something lodged in his ass. Whatever...

vs. 360 Modena with f1 gearbox - We were side by side from 40mph roll on in 2nd gear, shift, redline in 3rd gear still side by side, shift to 4th and he puts 1 car length on me before we shutdown. I had 1 passenger with me while racing the Ferrari. :(

Me - 98 M3 m50 manifold, URI crank pulley, dinan cai, 3.5" HFM, gc green gizmo, aa track pipe, aa gen3, dinan stg 4 ecu, asc delete, fan delete, all interior behind front seats was removed as well as spare tire during this time.

Pulled on numorous 3.2 obd1 setups, STi's, 996 p-cars (non-turbo), nsx's, evos, srt-4's.

AND I SMOKED 12:03 IN HIS BYZANZ M3 :)

And I am not so sure about this "anyone can go fast in a straight line" crap. I know for damn sure I couldn't come close to getting a 5.4 0-60 in my car, I am not that good of a driver. I would get like a 7-8 second 0-60 and so would most people on this board unless you launch your car at every stop light......I don't like straight line racing at all but to say anyone is good at it is BS.

I also have a similar list of HPDE passes, for which little can be said beyond the skill of the respective drivers.

As far as 'street encounters' go, the fastest car I have ever beaten was a Caterham 7. 1200 pounds and 200 hp. I ambushed him on the start and had enough of a lead that he couldn't catch up before we caught traffic. In a fair fight, he would have smoked me.

Otherwise, it would be an approx. 600 cc sport bike driven by a helmet-less squid without the skills to keep accelerating when we hit a fast sweeper.

that supra was a POS with a crappy bodykit and ugly wheels. im sure it wasnt maintained that well.

anyways the modded 98 m3 did beat it 2x. that was a strong motor in the 98 though (had everything but cams, lightened too)

I beat a new m3 on the freeway. A STI off the line. Another STI on the freeway. The other person was always by themsleves, but i had 1 person in my car. I dont know how my car beats these type of cars. I also destroyed a NSX on the freeway and a couple of twisties.
