Well, today was our first ride up (out) to Antelope Island State Park, which i guess is in Layton/Syracuse Utah. I'm not sure if I should be embarrased or not having lived here for like 8 years and never been out there before... anyhow.

It was beautiful, and holy shit, what a great 'proving ground' for fast cars.. hehe.. We blazed the open roads without the hassle of police or other traffic. Sorry the pics arent that great but it sure was fun. I can definately see doing a dA photo shoot, rally up there again in the spring/summer.

Nice pics man. Yeah the roads are nice out there indeed.

I had a 110 reasons (with much more to go) why I love my DINAN 5 last weekend. Felt like I only had 70 reasons till my co-pilot brought the excessive reasons to my attention! Whoops. :devillook

Hot pics Matt!

It's ok. I've never been out there either. We should definitely do some driving and/or pictures out there sometime.

there are these really great long stretches with nothing for miles... Very easy to get up to autobahn speed.. however, it feels like you are going MUCH faster because of the single narrow lane. I dont think speed is enforced by Park Rangers.. at least I didnt see any. All the wildlife is hybernating.. but the great salt lake looks really peaceful and quiet. It would be am AMAZING place to shoot film.. as in cornering video as there are a few switchbacks and s turns with slightly changing elevation. Oh, park admission is $8.00 per car for a whole day.

here are a few more...

It really isn't mine. It was a guy on a dyno being crazy...
To achieve that speed in an M3 you'd need a supercharger or to be going down hill with a tornado pushing your ass down...

I have seen 172 before, though... :eyecrazy

Is that 190?

I've only been there to do a school project. We had to hike up Elephant something and do experiential sketches... :rolleyes

Lots of bugs in the summer, and we ran into a baby buffalo and rather large, unhappy mama buffalo...

How much space did it take to get there?

How much was was left?

How did the car feel?

Not seen more then 120 yet in my BMW but at 130 the Talon front end starts to lift and the steering gets "loose"

It's amazingly stable seeing as it really isn’t meant to go that fast, I was racing a black Carrera 4S that was VERY intent on staying with me... The car was still stable, not as stable as at 150mph. It incrementally gets worse. We were on I215 started up around the wasatch mountains going south and then curved west. We were at about 150 around that BEND!!! I have to say my ass puckered up on that one... He didn't seem as nervous, so I assume his car felt a little more planted. He was in the slow lane and I in the fast lane... So, he started to get in front of me... We kept on it and by the Fort Union Exit And I was with him Neck & Neck...that's when I looked down and saw the 172... Then there was some traffic so I didn't feel it would be right to start weaving at those speeds, so I shut it down... And He just kept Flying! Crazy guy. A little too crazy for my tastes.
Man, the adrenaline was flowing at that point! WOAH! :eyecrazy

Also of note, the brakes on that car ARE DEFINITELY NOT DESIGNED FOR THE CAR TO GO BEYOND 150mph. Up to 150 they are very responsive, quick and you feel very in control. After 150mph they start to fade, loose power and feel a bit twitchy... You have to pay very close attention to what each wheel is doing and let off a bit if necessary.

So, that's the stability.
I guess it took about 2 miles to get there.
...and No, there really wasn't much more that the car could do... Maybe another 10mph and a lot of road...

Fun Fact: The Theoretical Top Speed in the E46 M3 in 6th gear at 8K rpms (with stock gearing) is 205 mph. :eek2

Ant. No need for apologies to Matt. I can't seem to remember a time EVER that anyone around these parts stayed ON-TOPIC. :rolleyes :D

Matt should be lucky it was even car related.

Hahahaa. Alright, Screw You Matt! :D :D :D OK, back On Topic...

I wonder how much better the Comp. Package will make the M3 at Higher speeds? Additionally, I wonder if the brakes will resist fade by a considerable amount?
Please Discuss... :D

chmdrm

Not sure about hi speeds, I've heard it sits a bit higher but has stiffer springs. All third hand of course.

The comp package does have better brakes so I would assume that they won't fade as soon.

Ask me again a few months and we will test it all out.

This is the exact spot where I made a substantial contribution to the Utah Highway Patrol Saturday night. I think the officer's quote was "I clocked you going past 100 back there" (I was still in 3rd Gear in a C4S, though not black)
By the way, I think the C4S's top speed is posted at 174.

I would not hold your breath. It is a plan based on how good work is going now, and my being able to not blow a wad on toys between now and april.

It is a good plan, and one I think will work however.
