Ikes!!! A zoom-out picture would help see better but either way could be Head Gasket. Get to a shop SOON!

OK, that's better. That is right underneath the VANOS, but it could be the chain tensioner.

How much for the head gasket and how much for the chain tensioner?

I am not really sure on prices or even if that is your problem. But my guess would be about $150 for HG and $120 for Tensioner + Labor 2-3hrs and those are not dealer prices.

headgasket is 1000+ if you include the labor...

Check the lower chain tensioner to see if it loosened. That was my problem. It is worth checking. All I had to do was re-torque that tensioner and it was all good. IIRC 34 or 36 mm socket was needed. Good luck

I can't see the pictures, but I think he means a valve cover gasket and not the head gasket.

If the head gasket were his problem, oil in the engine bay would be the least of his concerns.
