I can get a package of MVR Magnums 17x8.5 all around with 225/45/17 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712.
A little worried because 8.5 is max size for 225s.
Whats your take on Supras? Thinking MX but if Supras are good enough then I'll take them. What other tires would you recommend in the same price range for the size you think I should run?
The car is my daily driver. Looking for a good balance between comfort/noise and handling. They'll never see snow. Also would like to know how many miles I could expect out of them.
Thanks :redspot

I've been wondering about this too. 225 seems to be the commonly recommended width on everything from 7.5 to 8.5, which seems like a really wide range.
I'm thinking of going to 245/40 when I get my 18s.

DONT go with 225's on a 8.5 or even 8 for that matter. Its way too narrow and you'll be scraping rim if you ever curb rather then scraping tire. For 8.5 I suggest 245's as a minimum. I guess if you want that euro look where the tire looks like \_/ instead of (_) you can go with 225's, but thats just so little grip compared to a larger tire. I can't even began to explain how much better my 255's all around feel compared to 225's. I'm speaking from personal experience by the way.
As far as the tire choices go, if you are looking to save a little money, go with the 712's, but they are not good tires by any means, no grip in wet or dry. MX's are 10 times better.
Oh, the reason every place that sells wheels and tires as a package suggest 225's is because the know it will fit without a doubt.

I would say at least 235s, 245s all around work great, Ive been running 245s all around for my last few sets of tires. Ive run Mx for around 20k miles per set. Thats really good considering how I drive. :devillook

From everything I've heard, I really want to get 245/40s on my 8.5 18" wheels.
I'm scared of the rubbing though. :(

with 18s I think 245 40s are to tall, I would think 245 35.

225/40/18 on a 18X8 provided no lip protection. My guess is 235's on a 8.5 will provide little to no lip protection(lip protection also depends on the type of tire you are getting). I would say go with the 245's.
As for those wondering about rubbing...you might, but its easy enough to pinch your lip a little to get it to stop, what kind of offset are we talking?

35 mm. I really want to use the Kumho MX's, but they don't come in 245/35, I'd have to use 235/40 or 245/40.

35mm?? dang, if you go with the 245/40's you will definitely rub and will have to roll your lip quite a bit, 235/40's might be the better choice. good news is you wont need a spacer up front.

doostin, what size tires were you running before the 255's? I'm thinking of going with the Kosei's but not sure if I want to go 245/40's or 255/40's. I am going from 235/40's now.
Will I notice a difference in performance goint to 255's? Are you still running the stock 3.15 rear? I guess I need a 3.38 to take away any losses by the increased tire diameter............................damn, does it ever end!
