Anyone know if a harness/ECU from a auto car will work for a OBD1 conversion of a manual car?

I did it.
I had a 325 auto tranny hooked up to the 3.2l. I later converted to a manual tranny. I basically left the auto computer hooked up until I found a buyer for it. So now there's nothing attached to that part of the harness.

So why are you doing the conversion?

I'm considering moving into BSP this year. I think I can make more horsepower with OBD1 under BSP rules.

The main reason is tuning. I haven't found OBD II software that doesn't change the VANOs. Getting a custom OBD1 chip is easier/cheaper. Is there a better alternative?

If your car is a manual now...and the harness is from an auto there will be a problem getting the reverse lights to work. Actually they wont work unless you rewire the circuit.

There is a little wiring to do, but its quite easy.
You also have to wire up the starting wire hooked up to park position. This is only if you already have an auto. Excuse my lack of proper terminology- probably wondering how I did my conversion myself.

Since his car is already a manual he just needs to rewire the reverse lights. Plus there are lots of extra wires to clip or remove.

The problem with an OBD-I conversion on a street car is emissions control. EVERY state will eventually have port scanning for 96+ cars. The port scan will not work with OBD-I, and thus failed emissions. On a track/autox dedicated car, it's not a problem because it's not driven on the street and doesn't need to be titled for the street.
