Hello, I'm working on changing the essential fluids in my newly aquired
69 2002. I would like to get the car on a maintenance schedule and
through a previous thread found what I need listed below:

motor oil = 20/50 , 15/50 all year , all temps
BMW oil filter # 059

-is the 20/50 grade good for hot weather?

trans = for your crunch- ATF oil, or , no crunch - SAE 75/80 Gear oil
(NOT HYPOID)

-Isn't ATF thinner than the 75/80 gear oil, does it really help with a
transmission crunch? If so I'll probably use ATF as the factory 4 cruches
when shifting into second.

Diff & Steering Gear box - SAE 90 HYPOID Gear Oil

flush the brake/clutch fluid EVERY year

Do you use speed bleader valves? What size? I think it is a 6mm...my
brakes are real spongy...

remove the lower radiator hose to drain and up under the exhaust
manifold - right in the middle of the block is a block coolent drain plug
(17mm wrench?) - change the coolent every 3-years

2-3 drops of your motor oil down into the center shaft of the
distributor - remove the cap, rotor, tiny felt pad in the shaft - drops -
work the mechanical advance and make sure it has spring return
tension. do this with eaxh oil change.

vacuum out the slot for the brake /clutch/gas pedal - did out all the
dirt accumulated down into the pedal pivior area under the carpet ,
spray oil lub into the shafts and wiggle the peddles as you do.
Get under the car and oil the gas peddle linkage coming out of the
pedal box. Lub the carb throttle linkage / and at the fire wall piviot
also.

Anything else you can think of I'd appreciate it, and the above thread
that I copied was helpful. I also put a couple extra questions I had in.

Thanks again

My thoughts..... after having my 2002 21 years now..... Jeezzeee.... I'm getting old... :D

Oil-
I use Mobil 1 15W-50. year round (warm and 'coolish' weather)

I use an "Eezibleed" pressure bleeder for my brakes and clutch. Castrol LMA fluid. Love it. I don't use any funky bleeding mechanisms at the wheels. Just a tube draining into a cup and the wrench to turn the bleed fitting. I can do all 4 wheels VERY quickly.

Be sure to ONLY use BMW Antifreeze (or the Mercedes flavor..... both formulated for Aluminum engines and to maintain a specific PH)

The rest? Others can chime in-

Regular, pre-mixed coolant isn't OK for aluminum? I got some premixed coolant from Discount Auto....Should I use it? I'll probably get a speed bleeder system from SpeedBleeder.com. I've used a couple on my Motorcycles and seem to work good. The Ace pressure bleed system is a cool idea, nice article. Anyway, I'll probably get on the fluid changes this weekend. I'll see what everyone has to say first, and problably take back some of what I got already, for some of the recomendations off the boards.

Thanks again

So 20-50 is good year round? Is Redline MTL better than ATF?

I use redline MTL for my transmission and redline Hypoid Diff fluid designed for LSD for the LSD diff. Oil is Castrol GTX 20x50.
