OK so I just got a new o2 sensor put in (by my mechanic since I broke my tool trying it get it off, he ended up doing the same thing and had to get another ;)). Anyway, now (not sure if it did this before, I don't really remember) whenever I go from idle to speed up, like starting off in first, the engine sputters for a second or so and it takes about a second to get its balls back, then it's normal. What's going on? Is this an O2 sensor side-effect? Also, I don't know if this is related, but I noticed today that after I started the car up and let it idle for a minute or so, it sounded kind of rough (kind of like a tapping or clicking noise) - didn't sound horrible, just not smooth. Any ideas? I am going to try cleaning the ICV - don't know if it will make a difference, but I figure it can't hurt anything. Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,
Dan

the same thing happened to me when i had my o2 sensor replaced. it turns out that the mechanic(not bmw certified) either intstalled it wrong, or installed the wrong one.

i would put the old one back on to see if the problem is still there, its easier than starting tio troubleshoot all over

I don't have the old one anymore...and I'm almost 100% sure it was the right one. I know my mechanic wouldn't put the wrong one in...he knows his shit

how you know the parts guy didnt give you guys the wrong one? People make mistakes man, its easy to back track then troubleshoot from scratch. IMHO

I've been experiencing similar problems.
I got rid of most of it by replacing the o-ring gasket on the little plug in the front right corner of the valve cover.
I'll replace the 02 sensor heater relay this week and I'll take look at the plugs and the rubber boot/sleeves on each of the coils.
I notice the problem more after the engine warms up. Seems to run ok when cold.
